I associate certain songs with certain periods of time in my life, feelings I have, and things that have occurred.
After my father was diagnosed, I spent a lot of time crying to "Sweater Weather" by The Neighbourhood...not because most of its subject matter was exactly relevant, but because of the words "it's too cold for you here...and now...so let me hold both your hands in the holes of my sweater." I think I will forever connect those words with an image of my dad--wrapped up in layers of clothing and under a heating blanket--after chemo. His last cycle of chemo left him particularly cold-sensitive for at least five days after the completion of each treatment (he would be on a pump for two days and then have to return it). I sometimes try to hold my dad when he is cold, but he seems uncomfortable with being held, so I give him his space.
I also listened to "Leaving Hope" by NIN for quite some time, once I knew he was stage IV.
But when I watch how my family members are crumbling under the weight of the grief they are feeling, I think of the song "Atlas" by Covenant. (It is both a sad song, and one of strength.)
In the midst of it, I cried listening to "Say Something" by A Great Big World...and I realized that there is one loss I should stop grieving.
Now, I feel like my whole day can be changed whenever I hear "Happy" by Pharrell Williams.
For years, I was somewhat numb...and I have begun feeling again.
Music has always been special to me...and I wish I could tell each of these artists/bands that they have helped me along in ways that I could never adequately thank them for.
Do you "feel" music in such a way that it makes an indelible mark on your heart? If so, which songs, at which times in your life, have been branded into your consciousness, and hold a special place in your heart...and why?

Bette Midler's ""My Hero"" song. For those I loved in the family who have gone on.

Hi mistri! This will sound nuts, but the theme song to the Bob Newhart show makes me happy and calms me for some reason! I'll play it in my head when I'm stressed out!
When my DH and I was on our way to the hospital to have our first baby, he played REM's "It's the End of the World as We Know It". I sang along with it between contractions and laughing! I never heard that song in the same way after that.
Hope you are doing well and hanging in there, Hon.

When I left CA to start a new beginning, there was a song that I played over and over again...and I am not a fan of country music, but I loved these lyrics

Yes, very much. I play music every single day (TV on, but muted, it's the music that fills my space). All genres of music, and so many mirror my long life that it would take a book to go through them all.
All I can say is that it would be a hard pick for me if I had to choose between deaf or blind.
Excellent post Mistri, I may contribute again as it expands.
