I started to read that book and I found it immediately distasteful. I wasn't interested in finishing the read. I won't be watching any series on said book. As for misbehaved kids, I blame that on the parents who should keep tabs on the child and remove him or her from the event if the behavior is really bad.

I watched the show and I am surprised the parents of the boy who got slapped let him go on and on swinging the bat. I honestly can't deal with parents like that, they weren't even watching him. As an adult I would have taken the bat out of his hand but definitely not slapped him. I would not hang out with people who had kids this out of control though, so I wouldn't be in this situation.

Irish- Didn't the boy kick the man in the shins after the bat was taken away? This is from a trailer I saw, not the actual show. I thought I saw him kick the man.

The boy did kick him after the bat was taken away.

Thanks.

I was kicked in the shins by a 5 year old wearing cowboy boots. My only protection were the nylons I was wearing.

It hurt like crazy. It also left a knot on my shin and some nasty color changes.

What I did and what I wanted to do were two separate things.

Yes, he did kick him. While I would never hit another persons child, I think the parents went way over board and made it a much more traumatic event for their son by the way they acted after he was slapped.

I watched it and I liked it. I love to watch character studies like this show and wonder what makes a person tick.

As soon as the mother started to "nurse" her five year old son, I wondered where it's all leading. That has to be pertinent down the road, I'm thinking.

Somehow, I don't see the guy who slapped the little boy walking out of there untouched. Not at my hand, but my husband's. Then again, our boys never would have behaved the way that child did, and it wasn't only the bat, he started almost as soon as they arrived at the party.

I'll keep watching, because I want to see the story unfold from different perspective.

The "slapper" was set up from the beginning to be an unsympathetic character. From the moment he asked where he should park his car, he had an X on him. We later learned he valued things in monetary terms. When he made his toast you didn't know whether he was serious or not when he said his cousin took his SATs. (would he cheat to succeed?) After he hit the child, his wife (almost over) apologized too quickly for his behavior. It was also inferred that he could be physically abusive to her.

I thought the characters and the actors who portrayed them were interesting.
