I'm watching it on HGTV, only because it's commercial-free. But the announcing leaves much to be desired.

I have to agree! I like the "no commercial" idea, but there are still lots of them incorporated into the broadcast. I've never cared much for O'Dell. The twin brothers were irritating and seemed so dense when it came to pronouncing towns, cities, flowers, etc. Josh, the fellow "on the street," was SO inappropriate at times, and his screaming & hollering were so annoying!

I saw the Voice singers. But I cant understand. I recorded it and scanned it 3X and never saw Daryl Hall! Yet on his facebook page they posted a video of him singing You Make My Dreams Come True on a float done up like his house he lives in and performs his popular live from Daryls house shows. But that part never aired here? (I watched on ABC). Anyway I loved the floats and bands. Everything looked beautiful! I cant get over how they make those floats using flowers, grasses, and products from nature! Just amazing!

And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make~ The Beatles

Shorty - I watched on HGTV and saw him for about 10 seconds...they didn't show much at all, and I'm not even sure any of the talking heads noted his short camera shot. He looked GOOD, though! {#emotions_dlg.tt1}

Not a parade goer. I've been there as I live in L.A. and had my fill in my youth. I know the floats go on public display in a park for a few days as the weather may damage them (too warm or rainfall),or the flowers wilt. The blooms with any life are donated to the local hospitals/nursing homes, etc. The others go into the recycling of greens bins.

I didn't watch one minute of it this year, never been a fan of parades. I think the floats are beautiful but I really have to struggle to sit that long and watch any parade.

It has morphed into a Hollywood extravaganza. When I was in high school and college we would go to where they decorated the floats and help. It was fun and smelled fantastic, there were snacks and beverages, people having a good time and spending all night helping. There were no fences or armed guards like today. Mostly what we did was put each single flower into tiny water filled tubes and stick them into the chicken wire one at a time. It was actually pretty monotonous work. But the comraderie was the best. It used to take about three days with many many people to finish one float. Cannot even imagine what it would take today. Lovely to look at though. Enjoyable for all.

Thanks so much for a glimpse of what a wonderful experience that was back in the day! It seems that so many things are so much "bigger and better" than they were several years ago, but they've lost the charm and magic. I can imagine how the friendship and the smells, and the time spent must have felt, regular people coming together to make something happen. Seems today that everything is so specialized.

I was commenting to my son while the parade was on that I couldn't decide if I like the Macy's Thanksgiving parade better, or this one, then suggested that we should see both of them in the same season! Seems like a great idea for a road trip, doesn't it?

We watched the coverage on the Hallmark Channel with Stephanie Edwards and Bob Eubanks - commercial free. I started watching ABC and switched over during the first commercial. One of my friends had NBC on and said they weren't doing a very good job. I think we saw every float, horse group, and band, and heard every singer. Smile
