We are all about fall and pumpkins and decorating for Halloween to the extreme everyone tells us all the time. My sister who has small grandchildren has always taken the kids to go pick out their favorite pumpkins at the local farm that has every thing from veggies to apples and tons of pumpkins. She has this great fall outfit that she wears just to take the little ones there she even has pumpkin earrings. We all crack up when she comes back with happy kids and tons of pumpkins and her outfit just for the pumpkin gathering.

We often grow our own, so don't wear anything special to go out in the back yard to pick them.

We don't have our own crop this year, and I'll just pick them up during my routine shopping trips...all the markets sell them.

I used to grow great pumpkins in our garden in fact one year my nephew and his friend at work sent for special pumpkin seeds and they got a wonderful crop of different pumpkins in our field. They had the best time after work coming here with their little children watching those pumpkins grow feeding them miracle grow. When it came time to harvest them they let the kids gather them up it was a fun time for the kids and the parents. When I grew them I would just pick them and keep what I wanted and put the rest by my drive way and any one who wanted a few could just stop and take what they wanted. Now we have a ground hog and deer that will not let them grow so it is use less to even try and plant them in fact the deer will not leave any thing alone in the garden so it has turned out to be a waste of time and money to even try to plant a garden. But I still love to see pumpkins and gourds growing.

What kind of seeds to you use? Do you use heirloom non-gmo seeds?

Oh, come on, gazelle. You've never been to the pumpkin patch in your special pumpkin-pickin' sweater?

My nephew and the guy he worked with did some real research and I don't know what all different seeds they planted. I do remember they told me I would fall off my chair if they told me how much money they spent on those seeds. They did get good results, me I just went to the local garden shop that for the last 70 years have sold fresh seeds for any thing you want to grow and I told them I wanted a variety of pumpkin seeds and I planted them. Also planted Indian corn seeds, they really turned out to be beautiful there were so many different colors and I also gave away a lot of them and everyone was decorating their homes with them. I love to decorate for fall on another thread I said that I made a big wreath out of Indian corn and it tuned out to be beautiful to look at. Well the squirrels decided that its beauty was one thing but the taste of the corn was even better and they ate all my corn off and I was left with empty cobs on my wreath.
