I live between two cul de sacs, we have been using this feature for 3 years and its a good way to spread the word without using FaceBook or email.

Re: The Nextdoor Website

@pattypeep

Thank you for answering my question "Is it safe?"

I agree with you that it is safe and I wouldn't share my location... unless it was an emergency (as in diverticulitis attack.) Aack!

If one is living by themselves and can't get out for life-saving meds, etc. wouldn't it be great to have a chance to be neighborly?

Our dear DBIL (husband's brother) passed away not long ago. He had a neighbor who cared about him when he was living alone Houston.  We were grateful that someone --a neighbor, took the time to help him as he deteriorated.

If we have this Nexdoor site available to us, I am signing up for it so maybe we can connect with our neighborhood friends. THX

@Lindsays Grandma

You do, that is right.

Do a search for "Nextdoor" and the site takes over, guides you through and that is all!

My local branch is pretty dead. Very few posts, rarely anything new.

My small rural area has multiple FB groups for different purposes and they're all far busier than my Nextdoor group. It would seem that for me it's kinda useless. I find out the news from the FB groups and the Nextdoor has turned into Angie's List.

@pattypeep

OK! Joined! Almost used it today because we have a pack n play to give away (nearly new). A friend is taking it off our hands so I did not post it.

Our area "garage" sales seem pretty jumbled to me, although I suppose some like to use these. I prefer the neighbor concept of Nextdoor, I think.

Someone has already posted there about needing a babysitter. A handyman lady posted there, with a review.

Thanks for the tip!

I've been on this site for a year - never had one problem. I get so much information about the community - also the fire dept, police dept and animal rescuers are on here. They can't read our emails - but they post information, ie, change ur smoke alarms, street closings - and the animal rescue posts pics of dogs they picked up. There have been lots of thefts of packages left by UPS/FedEx at front doors --- and people trying to break into homes ---- many people have cameras and post pics.

@VaBelle35

I doubt that they're paid to post comments about a company ---- but I have asked for recommendations about service companies --- then I check out the company on Yelp. The recommendations I received were great!!!!!
