Re: The Might Be A Naive Question, But I'll Ask Anyway...

I stop reading if it turns into too many quotes. If I want to see if anyone has made comments about any of my comments, I just check "my activity"

How do you delete the quotes?

After you hit "Quote" to bring up the response box, just highlight them and hit "delete". It does make it simpler when you want to respond to one person and not all the ones previous.

When there is a long thread where people respond to each other, how do you know when someone is responding to what you posted? Since I read more then post, I was wondering once you post something and then move on to other topics how do you know when someone has responded to your first post?

There have been conversations where there was a constant volley of responses to each other so I was just curious. Thanks.

When I see "quotes of quotes" I move on. If it is a topic to which I want to respond I read each post individually and respond to the "nic" that want to communicate with on the topic. I start my post with "their nic" and move on from there.

I've posted many times asking why people that want to respond to "one poster" do not delete all the other "quotes". Don't know that anyone has ever answered to me directly. My only conclusion is that they don't want to take time to delete other "quotes", thus making it confusing to those other than themselves.

If I am going to take time to respond to a certain person I am not going to have quotes from a half dozen others to which I am not addressing, so I take the time to delete all the quotes but the one to the person I am addressing.

John, you and I do disagree on some things (but not cats!), but I totally agree with you on this. I also try to delete the previous quotes, especially when there are several prior to the one I want to respond to. The only time I leave any of them is if they are also relevant to my response. If everyone would do this, it would make it easier to follow a thread sometimes.

How about the OPs that ask for information - you provide a well-thought response and they never return to the thread. After several of these instances I realized why I've been registered for some time but mainly read, not post.

mysterylady, I don't like this either! I've posted on a lot of threads where I thought I could be helpful to the OP who wants information (I don't post unless I truly believe I have something useful to say), and then they either never come back to the thread, or they come back and never respond to me, even when I'm directly answering their question. They may joke with someone else on the thread that they know, or respond to someone who isn't even giving them the requested information, but my post is ignored. So many people here say they're grateful for all those who are willing to share their expertise, experience, etc., and I feel that way as well. I make it a point to go back to a thread and respond to those who have been kind enough to respond to me with help, suggestions, or answers. I think that's the courteous thing to do. But apparently everyone doesn't feel that way.

I try to quote always. But that gets me in trouble too. Some people think you are "calling them out" if you quote them.

I try to do this as well. I never feel called out, but I know it sets some off. I think if the thread is long and involved, this just makes it easier to follow things.
