When there is a long thread where people respond to each other, how do you know when someone is responding to what you posted? Since I read more then post, I was wondering once you post something and then move on to other topics how do you know when someone has responded to your first post?

There have been conversations where there was a constant volley of responses to each other so I was just curious. Thanks.

When I see "quotes of quotes" I move on. If it is a topic to which I want to respond I read each post individually and respond to the "nic" that want to communicate with on the topic. I start my post with "their nic" and move on from there.

I've posted many times asking why people that want to respond to "one poster" do not delete all the other "quotes". Don't know that anyone has ever answered to me directly. My only conclusion is that they don't want to take time to delete other "quotes", thus making it confusing to those other than themselves.

If I am going to take time to respond to a certain person I am not going to have quotes from a half dozen others to which I am not addressing, so I take the time to delete all the quotes but the one to the person I am addressing.

I am a tech idiot, but I don't know how to delete quotes, or highlight a portion of a quote like some people do when responding. Could you share how?

mominohio, I think you can apply these functions on a computer but maybe not on an iPad. Smiley Happy

Hi mominohio

The way I do it takes more time than just highlighting everything and hitting the "delete' key. What I do is put the "cursor" to the left of the first word I want to delete. I then hold down the "delete" key and watch the words disappear pretty quickly. I do this on ever quote that are not the one to which I am responding.

Notice in this one I took out the post of "wink" by doing just what I explained above. If after you delete all the words in the box and you want to eliminate the box? Hit delete once and if it only makes the box smaller, hit delete key as many times and necessary to remove the box.

Like I said, if there are several quotes it takes more time than just "highlighting all the words" you want to delete, but I prefer doing it this way even though it takes more time. My post turns out the way I want it to look and most of the time I also address the "nic" that is on the post to which I am replying, like this one where I say: "Hi mominohio"

That will work for you either way. It just depends on how much time you want to take and how you want your post to look to the one to which you are responding. I tried to say this in a way it can be understood. If I didn't accomplish that don't be afraid to say so, and I will try it again using a different method.

Let me know.

How about the OPs that ask for information - you provide a well-thought response and they never return to the thread. After several of these instances I realized why I've been registered for some time but mainly read, not post.

I noticed that too. Why post a question if you're not going to follow up with the responses? I think it's rather rude not to respond.

I learned a lot from this thread, I didn't know you could delete previous posts when responding. Thanks all.
