My small school district has erected a large cardboard cutout of an oak tree decorated with leaves printed with the names of students needing a bit of help amassing their school supplies for this year. The tree is in the lobby of the Board of Education office. Each leaf shows the child's first name and initial of their last name, their school and grade level. Lists of desired supplies for each grade and school are nearby. Donations are collected and delivered to the students via assigned personnel at each school. I took four leaves and lists for students at the elementary school closest to our home. I just think this a great idea, and hope other schools/districts might do something along the same lines for their students needing help. We never had children to buy school supplies for each summer, so this is a fun adventure for us during our next trip to the office supply store.
