@CalminHeart I agree, I can't begin to tell you how many children I have heard scream at their parents at the top of their lungs and the parents do and say nothing. Right there, imo, is where disrespect starts. If there is no discipline at home it eventually affects their character in the way they treat others.
I'm not saying that parents who "****** this kind of thing in the bud" early on... won't have trouble with their kids as there is always exceptions to the rule. In that case (which I have had) you get outside help for them.

That wasn't a dirty word...they crossed out, by the way. I can't imagine it anyway! Was a common statement (at least in my day)

@Mersha We have a habit of disagreeing, but boy do we disagree on this one!!!!!! I can agree with some of what you list, but personal responsibility and consequences for bad behavior went out the window somewhere along the way too.

I feel sorry of the kids that do want to learn and get an education.
@10sluvr Ok, let's blame everything on the "liberal school boards." Come on...seriously?
yes, we should. you think they are blameless for the mess schools, are in??? they set the tone for the school atmosphere. If there are strict rules and punishments, that are enforced, the kids would respect the teachers and staff more. Obviously, respect isn't being taught, at home. I'm ok with stronger security, to ensure everyone's safety.
Do you have kids? You sound detached from what is happening. Too many soaps, reality tv and Fox. Shut the tv off, maybe.
Sadly, I give up with these types of topics. People like believing the worst and instead of posting a topic that talks about how much good young people are doing, they choose the worst possible scenarios. It's a pattern here and I feel sorry for the ones that actually seem to enjoy hearing about the small minority of kids that act out @Lakelife62 . 🙄
i believe that most of the kids (in our schools) are good and do lots of volunteering and we have a high graduation rate. When my kids went to school, the trouble makers were always the same group of kids. I think stronger consequences would have curbed it. Over and out.

It is the same today. There will always be a minority of troublemakers. That doesn't mean that all kids are running wild and there are no consequences for bad behavior.
The article this post is based on mentioned that there are about 30 kids, among the 1400 students who roam around refusing to go to class. That's about 2% of the school population. Yet somehow that's interpreted as all kids in the school, which is so unfair to kids who are trying to learn and grow in challenging circumstances.
