Re: The Grocery Stores Will Be Insane, OMG, Snow

I really need to shop, have been putting it off, so we're headed out this afternoon to get it done.  I don't see that we're expecting anything unmanageable, weather wise, here in NW Indiana.

You haven't heard of the Donner party?

Uh, no.  If I knew what this was, I wouldn't have asked.  You honestly couldn't figure that out?  Woman Surprised

@Tinkrbl44   In the 1800's pioneers in a wagon train were snowbound in the Sierra Nevada mountains.  In order to survive they resorted to cannibalism of the dead.

The worst, in my opinion, is here in southern California. Oh my goodness, if we get a forecast for "rain" the grocery stores are packed. It's only rain and it rarely amounts to much. It's ridiculous. Drives me crazy.

I don't mind crowded stores.  What surprises me is how few people know how to drive in the rain!  Yikes!

I grew up in WNY, so I've shovelled plenty of snow .... at least rain "rolls away" with no effort on our part .... lol.

I know! This really cracks me up. I live in Western PA. About 8 miles south of Pittsburgh. The snow we get now is nothing like snow we got when I was a kid. And I don't remember ever having a snow day! We had  no busing when I was in school. You bundled up, Mom put newspaper in your boots and you walked to school. That's just how it was. No rides from parents because most families only had one car and Dad took it to work. And this was the late 1960's thru 1973. I think it toughened us up and taught us to handle adversity.

@NEvans2   I grew up outside of Pittsburgh and I recall the bus showing up when the snow was knee deep.

We had very few snow days as we would be out of school all winter if that were the case.

A couple of inches in the DC area now and schools are closed.

Amazing.

Well the Boston area looks like they will get a fair amount at the current timing of the weather channel forecast.  I'm in RI and border MA so we should get a fair amount.  Looking like Long Island may get less or be mixed but they are saying it's a tough one as they're not sure where the warmer temps will come in changing things over to sleet and rain.  Either way I'm excited!   I was at Trader Joe's this morning as I had to go shopping anyway and it was crazy busy.

Back in the 60's and 70's no one had front wheel drive or 4x4 vehicles. We drove to work or school in the snow and somehow managed to survive.

Most of my cars were muscle cars so that was fun. lol

I put studded snow tires on my Corvette and that thing was like a little tank--it would plow through even deep snow.  No calling in to work because of snowstorms in those days for me.

Re: The Grocery Stores Will Be Insane, OMG, Snow

I am in South Central PA.  We are expecting a few inches of snow too.

I don't need to go grocery shopping.  I always keep food stocked up.

I do know that everytime I go shopping, the stores are crowded.  I have to wait for people to move to maneuver in the aisle and wait to checkout.

I even have to drive around looking for a parking spot and end up parking far from the door.

Half of the time, the shelves are empty.  I dread grocery shopping.

Re: The Grocery Stores Will Be Insane, OMG, Snow

I've never understood this myself. I always have little food around and I'd have enough for one day. I always seem to get stuck in the shopping crowds for a storm and I'm always like buying three items or something and then I realize why the store is so crowded when I see the bread aisle almost empty. Personally I'd wait until the storm to go shop when it's nice and empty.
