A lady gave me a flower pot as she was moving and so I saw something this spring coming up and it is a tall stalk with leaves and it is probably about 16 inches now or 18 inches and it looks like there may be a flower that could open up but it has not and it is still growing. The leaves are layered all the way up the stalk..........do you have one of these or ever seen one in bloom? I can't take a picture and show you. regrets.....

Could it be a lily?

Without a picture it would be difficult to ID, Is it a bulb or tuber? It could be a day lily. Take it to a nursery.

No it is not a day lily but I just thought of something......I can take a picture on my old cell phone and then take it by a nursery.........I can't believe I did not think of that but it is too heavy in the pot to load in my car.......thank you........there is no tuber or blub.

Maybe a Stargazer lily. Can you plant some flowers around its base?

No the leaves are jagged and they go to a point......and they are not large........
