From what I can remember both children were staunch democrats and at the time they were very vocal about being against their fathers policies.  Especially Patti.  I think she was a handful at the time, Ron not too much.  I did see he recently endorsed Ted Cruz, that was a shocker.  I was wondering where his older children were.  His daughter Maureen and son Michael.  They were both very visible during his white house years.

Maureen is dead, she was very much like her dad.

Maureen died some years back and Michael who was here in LA shortly after Mrs Reagan's death had to be off on a business trip to Asia.  He apparently was invited to speak on the USS Reagan and was not at the funeral.

Here is a great article I found today after watching Mrs. Reagan's beautiful celebration.  Sheds some light on Patti:

@Hoovermom Thank you for sharing. That is a beautiful piece giving a private glimpse of NR's personal struggle. Very poignant.

I thought the ceremony was very tasteful. Her children chose to talk, and they did so with humor and respect. It is very difficult being children of famous people. Sometimes a couple like Nancy and Ronnie are so involved their children feel shut out.

My mother planned everything for her funeral and it was a big help. Unfortunately, the rabbi did not approve of all her wishes. E.g. No eulogy; she did not want any praise for her twenty eight years of hands on volunteering. She did not want the psalm, "A Woman of Valor," read. It was the first one he suggested.   I told him she had chosen a different one. Also a poem the rabbi disapproved off.

Her bil told him that if he didn't respect her wishes she'd come back and haunt him. She won!

It helped everyone so much that I'm in the process of doing it.

@Nightowlz That reminds me of my Dear Mother. She told me that she didn't want anyone looking at her and saying how natural she looks.

My mom and my aunt said the same thing. They didn't even want US to see them deceased...they both said they wanted us to remember them alive and breathing!

His natural daughter Maureen died shortly after the President was declared terminally ill - he never knew she had died.  Michael, his adopted son with first wife - Jane Wyman (spelling) may still have a radio show in Cal.  Nancy never treated him well - at the President's funeral she had Michael & family sit in the back of the room against the wall.
