What about the advice to cough as hard as you can on the way to the hospital if you think you're having a heart attack? My DH and I both remember reading that about five years ago.

Hi @Judaline

I did hear that a long time ago, nothing recently.  I wouldn't do it, I've had heart attacks and I think it could only make it worse, but I really don't know.  I think the silence about it nowadays may be telling.

Maybe someone else knows for sure.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong...but as I remember the coughing as hard as you can is if your heart rhythm is off to try to regulate it and get it to slow down. Coughing is not for heart attack.

I have read that you should CHEW aspirin to thin the blood quickly. It must be chewed not swallowed at the first sign of chest pain and call EMS or be driver to ER quickly. DO not wait.

If you are alone call EMS and unlock your front door in case you cannot when they get there.

Yes, @wonderfulworld

Get a full strength aspirin and chew it, not the baby one. I've always been given a second one about ten minutes later, by the EMTs.

"This year's severe flu season is still pummeling the country from coast to coast. The respiratory illness appears to be unusually bad for baby boomers, federal health officials reported Friday."

"The flu is hitting the 65 and over age group hardest, but the next-hardest hit is the 50 to 64 age group."

@Noel7...I posed that question to the Head of Cardiology , St. Francis Hospital Roslyn, NY and he told me to stay off the internet regarding advice on heart attacks and diets. He joked with me, though, that his videos are excluded from that advice.

Re: The Flu Increases Risk Of Heart Attack

ps @Trinity11

Did you see that it's our respiratory flu that's hitting the hardest?  I'm still not back to how I was before.  Still tired and my ribs still hurt even though I finally stopped coughing almost a week ago.

How are you doing?

Hi @Noel7. He is often on television and quoted. I just spoke to him yesterday. He believes the only diets that work for a heart patient are diets that a patient can live with and he uses blood work to determine whether risk factors are minimized. He firmly believes stress kills more than any other factor. I have read reviews of him where some patients call him arrogant. I think of him as brilliant...

@Noel7...still coughing at night. I can't eat because of the kidney stone. Eventually, I will go to the ER but trying to avoid that route.

Wonderful! @Trinity11 When someone I care about is ill, and me, I'll take a brilliant MD every time.

I've got one now like that, at first he was a little off putting, but I saw him in action when I was in with the flu.  He had bought a fancy thing that allowed him to give me a heart sonogram in my bed, just laying there.  Amazing!

I was so sick I didn't notice, but the entire time I was in there, they were working on my heart to keep it from an attack. A Heparin injection every morning.

I'm so sorry @Trinity11  It's one thing after another with us.  That night time coughing means not sleeping well, which is not good.
