Movies of this type are usually billed as : ""Based on a true story.""

I watched it because I was told it was a great movie. I didn't think the acting was that good and I am sick and tired of watching movies about racism. There is racism on both sides. Every time American tries to heal, someone has to bring up all the rotten things of the past to incite anger in people. I would not recommend this movie. There was really nothing positive about it.

I don't think your theory of not making movies, teaching, writing books, etc. would make this ugly time in our country's history go away.

We must never forget.

If you go to see this movie keep in mind that it is not a documentary. It is a work of historical fiction.

I didn't get the impression from the promotional trailers that this was a factual film. Did somebody promote this movie as a factual account?

So it's FICTION? Hummmmm

Yes, it is fiction, historical fiction. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

No one in the industry promoted it as a factual account. However, there was much ado made on this board about the film being misleading. Just read some of the comments made on this thread.

Basically there was one group of people oppressed by another...the Civil Rights Act didn't become law until the 1960s.

People with your VP NEED to see movies like this one...and open your heart and mind.

The only thing I said was "misleading" was the rendering of the relationship between Nancy Reagan and the actual butler - Eugene Allen.

What I said about the rest is that I thought it was a shame that Hollywood did not think the story of the actual butler and his relationships with the presidents he served (as opposed to the minor snippets we got) was not a good enough story to tell and that it needed to be embellished with a past including the rape of his mother - driving her crazy and the murder of his father etc. etc.

Even the movie "Lincoln" wasn't 100 percent accurate. It's a movie, not a documentary.

Perhaps it was a compilation of the experiences of black people. Are you implying that what you described never happened to anyone?

And I guess that justifies making his wife a drunk who had an affair too. I mean some women fit that category - so hey why not?
