Re: The $5 found the red kettle!

[ Edited ]

@ShowMeand @Laura14 you both have done a beautiful thing. It's a gift from the heart ,and that is what Christmas is really about, not the monetary value .Remember the  widow's mite, she gave more than everyone else, because it was everything she had . You gave with that kind of spirit. Don't let  a negative post, make you feel you didn't do a  good deed

SA reports they direct 85% of all donations directly to helping the needy.  Forbes says it's 82%.   Because it is officially a church, it is not required to give out any kind of actual financial statement publicly.

I pass many red kettles in my area and every time I put a dollar in.  It usually ends up to be a lot over the season.  I admire the SArmy!

Re: The $5 found the red kettle!

I haven't seen a single 'red kettle' this year... I'll grant you, I haven't been doing as much running around as I usually do, as I had less gift shopping to take care of. Still, I have been to several stores and to the grocery stores, where I usually see them, any number of times. Not a single red kettle...

@chrystaltree- Was that sarcastic remark really necessary?  Did it make you feel better?

Perhaps putting another $5 in a red kettle might make you feel even better than that.

If everyone contributes something, no matter how small, we can change things for the better.  And the Salvation Army has made a point of saying that even spare change adds up and that, sometimes people are afraid their donation wouldn't be enough.  (Probably they're afraid of being mocked by some people.  Just sayin'.)

By any chance, do you remember the story of the widow's mite?

But a Merry Christmas to you anyway.
