We’re having Christmas at my sister’s house tomorrow.

I just put the squash casserole in the oven. When it’s done cooking, I’m going to try really really REALLY hard not to drop it on the floor when putting it in the refrigerator like I did years ago.  It flew out of my hands, through the air, in seemingly slow motion then and every single bit landed out of the dish, on the floor.  I’m glad there were no children around that night. Sailors would have blushed.  My husband was conveniently at work.

I was at Honey Baked Ham this morning at 6:45. They opened early and I was in and out in 5 minutes. 6:45 in the morning.  6:45.

Tomorrow morning I’ll bake the croissants (from QVC), and slice some tomatoes and cucumbers and load it all and the presents in the car to go to my sister’s.

My husband is sick and has slept quite a bit of the last two days. He refused to go to urgent care this morning and I called our doctor to beg for an antibiotic but they’re closed till 1/2. I doubt very seriously that he’ll be able to go tomorrow though he insists that he’ll be fine.  No way.

If he can’t go, there will be 6 of us. It would have been so much easier to have grilled cheese sandwiches and dessert.

Then, , I have physical therapy bright and early Wednesday morning, as soon as they open at 9:00 so they can work on my rotator cuff which I strained reaching backwards to plug my iPad in to charge. I wonder who’ll be less enthusiastic at physical therapy first thing after Christmas?? Me or the therapists?  LOL.

Just some good natured musings on Christmas Eve. It will all be over soon.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@gidgetgh

Sorry for your stress, DH’s illness, and your shoulder! (((hug)))

Our first Christmas DH and I established a firm fast rule that Christmas Eve was just for us to sit quietly, snuggled on sofa, with our furry family.

We have clung to it despite heck and high water!

@Drythe- my husband is asleep in his recliner. Can’t get much more relaxed or quieter than that, LOL.

For years, we spent Christmas Eve with my husband’s family. However, most of them are deceased now and we have a few members in the hospital so no small family gathering this year.

I’m happy to report that the squash casserole successfully made it out of the oven and is cooling on top of the stove.

Honey Baked ham is a blessing from above, isn't it? It sure frees up space in the oven for me.

I usually get one for my family's Christmas gathering, which is usually after the 25th.

We are getting a smoked ham and smoked brisket from a local company this time. Hope it tastes as good as Honey Baked.

@Drythe  I enjoy a quiet Christmas Eve with only the light from the Christmas tree and some carols.  It's the perfect ending to all the stress leading up to Christmas Day!

Re: Limping to the finish line

@gidgetgh: Merry Christmas. Will be praying for you and DH. My DH is taking a nap and hoping his pain meds will work. Having only one friend over tomorrow, he has provided transportation when needed. Turkey already carved, ham sliced,Mac and cheese cooked, collards cooked. I still need to cook the dressing and sweet potato casserole.  Purchased pumpkin pies and cookies from Fresh Market this morning. I made two pans of microwave fudge. Will reheat everything tomorrow- which to some is horrible. I am physically worn out and in a lot of pain. Tomorrow will let everyone serve themselves. I will use my beautiful fine china (not)! We will focus on food and fellowship. Didn’t put a tree up this year but have a wreath on the door and nativity scene on the living room hutch and relieved it will only take a few minutes to clean up.

Prayers especially for your physical therapy that I call the torture pt.  Southern Bee

Re: Limping to the finish line

I’m having the 2nd part of a root canal 🦷 on Wed. Nothing, NOTHING but sympathy to all of us who are “limping”.
