Re: That thread was deleted?

Ford, I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I just don't happen to believe that OR is one of the posters here who would deliberately try to get a discussion removed. I view her as someone who would rather it stay and she could choose to be active in it.

I was responding to the "culprit" remark with my own opinion. I agree that there are many bright and articulate people here. I can't say that I've ever saved a thread for my own use, but I can see where someone would want to. I'm glad you were able to do that.

When I agreed with the "culprit" remark it was pointed to those who deliberately snark to bring a thread down . . . it seems especially so if there is intelligent and relevant conversation going on. I have seen this over and over again. They add nothing to the topic, they just start an attack on something someone says and then it goes back and forth, mostly with one-liners . . . they know TPTB hate that and will eventually delete the thread . . . which is their goal. If someone deliberately reports a thread . . . I'll never understand that or why it is successful, as I have never done it.

And then they go on to another, just as was said in this thread a few moments ago. No interest in the content, just "winning" whatever argument they are involved in with whomever. In fact, take "winning" out, because I don't think they care if they win or not. They disrupted the thread, which was their goal.

Anyway, it's a moot point I guess. Thank you for your sane comments.

That thread was a thinly veiled attempt to disparage fellow posters whose views didn't agree with the views of the OP. It morphed into a whine about family members, employers, and anyone else posters disliked.

Ford, I think we found our culprit. LOL {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Good example of posters who disparage fellow posters who disagree with their personal view.

Just FYI, I have never and will never report a post or thread as inappropriate because I strongly believe in free speech.

In my first post on this thread which precedes your incursion says "people here can be nice and supportive." You called my original thread a "thinly veiled attempt to disparage fellow posters"... how is that not a personal slight. You are guessing at my motivation without any supporting evidence.

I spend a considerable amount of time on these boards. I wouldn't do that if I didn't like the people here and generally enjoy my time here.

I'm not denying that you like some posters nor did I mean that you were disparaging all posters, just the ones whose views you dislike.

You asked in your thread about handling sanctimonious people but included your method of dealing with them. So, what exactly was the purpose of the thread? You weren't looking for help/opinions since you answered the question yourself.

The very fact that it was about sanctimonious people was an invitation for posters to rant about disliked others and they came out in numbers. Now your trying to play innocent or obtuse, take your pick.

OR . . . people told their personal stories which is also what this BB is about.

A lot of OPs are framed in exactly the same way and elicit the exact same responses of personal experience. Unfortunately, with some, any post is open territory for snarky and mean remarks.

It was worded in a way that made the person about whom those personal stories were related the bad guy and the relater the good guy and in the right. No room for a gray area, the main characters have already been labeled as a star and a villain.
