@Pearlee wrote:@Shawnie Every year I give a gift to my mail carrier ($$$$) and every year I get a thank you note just like that which ticks me off. The USPS raises postage every January yet it looks to me like those thank you notes "from your letter carrier" are given to them by the USPS (I may be wrong - maybe the carriers purchase them but I doubt it) at, I assume, taxpayer expense. So yes, I get one of those and I think my carrier should have used his own thank you notes that he purchase at Hallmark or some place.
@Pearlee .. I also give my mail carrier $$ for Christmas. But the thank you card I received the other day was definitely not issued by the PO.

I guess it depends upon your post office. I am lucky to have the actual phone number for our local post office, not the 800 number. They always answer and are very responsive. They are just plain, nice people; guess I am fortunate.
We have very small post offices in all the local towns. In this day and age with our declining populas I am surprised they haven't consolidated. Perhaps decision is based on land area covered, not population as we are small town america with plenty of rural areas.
I wish everyone had the type of service I have

No Im talking about their local number, I called the 800 number and all they did was refer me back to the local number that no one answers. That's terrific you great service from your local USPS...I'm jealous

How do you know they received it then, or do you hand it to them in person?
I always got a thank you card. He got many gifts, because he was friendly with the people on his route. He retired.

Shawnie, I think they do appreciate being thanked. As it was customary when I lived in NYC, I annually put out a card with just a little money, for the letter carrier I've had for 20+ years now.
He sends a thank-you card of his own choosing. As he lives in the neighborhood, the card often offers a humorous illustration about life around here: traffic, storms, etc.

@Allegheny When I read your first paragraph, I immediately thought "she must have a small-town P.O." Then I read your second paragraph....yep.
My P.O. never answers the phone as I posted above. But it's a huge metropolitan area P.O.
