I have a lot of respect for nurses because I know firsthand how hard they work. I have a special-needs child who has a lot of Health issues who I've been taking care of for many years. I do not have a formal education, but I have been doing the job and have learned a lot. I love her immensely and so glad that God gave me the ability and wisdom to take care of the greatest gift and love of my life!

Re: Thank a nurse

Thank you to all who have shared and expressed kindness for nurses here.

I did it for 40 years and loved it, the rewards far outweigh the bad days.

Most are compassionate, caring and professional. They are angels. It takes a special kind of person to do this work. On the other hand, it is a profession where 15% have substance use disorders with easy access to heavy duty meds. That places patients at risk. There are also hateful and mean peeps who go into the profession for the feeling of control and terrorize the poor patients who happen to cross their paths. I can picture some extra pinches, roughness when placing IVs, ignoring the call button. Nurse Ratched wasn't based on fiction. There are rotten, dumb and lazy nurses among us, too. Obvi.
