My mom 41 years. 3rd shift emergency department. She’s been retired for many years now…..
A brilliant nurse - to this day. (She’s 86 now)
A terrible mom…. but a world class nurse.

Nurses---  some of the most intuitive, alert and compassionate professionals around.  Who make patients' lives infinitely better during sometimes the most stressful moments ever experienced.  Salute you and thanks!

Re: Thank a nurse

[ Edited ]

when i was 18, ready to go to college in 1969, the career paths for girls were limited. Mostly teaching, secretarial, nursing, paralegal, dental hygiene. Those were the areas most encouraged from my recollection.

Unless you were someone already focused on being a doctor or whatever.

I was floundering in indecision. Ended up going to nursing school where my mom went, lived in the same student nurse dorm, trained at the same hospital (I was born there too)

All gone now.

@smoochy

Let's hear it for our current and past nurses!

My mom was an RN trained at Bellevue Hospital NY.  Marlena Dietrich was a patient while in her private care, I have a handkerchief she gave her for her services.

After relocating to the SF Bay Area she worked for the Chief of Surgery at a large Peninsula Hospital.

She worked on Victor Sen Yung "Hop Sing" on Bonanza when he was shot in a hijacking attempt at the SF airport. Her daily stories regardless of celebrities or not were fascinating.

She was a great part of the big medical service world and I was always proud of her service.

I followed in my moms footsteps ( she passed from Covid in 2020) who was a RN. I retired from being a nurse for 50 yrs in 2016. I worked on the medical floors but loved working in the Hospital newborn nursery for many years. I  ended my career working as a case manager for a work comp insurance company 5 days a week, no nights,weekends or holidays and worked from home. I really loved that part of my career, less ware on my 2013 SUV which I bought new, still own and just reached 100,00 miles in November of 2025, runs great !   I feel that I was truly blessed with a great career thanks to my mom !
