I just got a smart phone @ Christmas. I only used it a few times. My children & grandchildren text to my email and I message them through email. I am not a fan of small devices. I prefer my big laptop. But I can tell you that my teen grandchildren text thousands of texts a month. At first they didn't have free texting and the bill went over and they both lost their phones for awhile for not obeying the limits. Now they have free texting so they can text away. I might add my daughter and her husband pay a fortune for their families cellphones and my son pays a fortune too and he is on his own plan. (something I would never do, I have a pre paid phone). They all have iPhones.

I don't think that $60 per month per phone with unlimited texting is a bad deal. That's what I pay.

Sounds high to me. We pay around 140 a month for 4 cell phones and the home phone thru T-Mobile @ home on it with unlimited long distance on all five, unlimited texting, unlimited local minutes, and data plans on the 4 cells. Since we got rid of the home phone with no long distance and caller id at around 40+ per month . . . I don't feel the 140 is too terribly bad . . . so net 100.00 basically for the 4 cells, unlimited text & minutes & data that slows down after so much . . . but we've never hit that point as many times we can use the free wi-fi at home, work & school so not really using the data limits.

I compared with Verizon and AT&T and to get their *free* phones and be locked into a contract and it would have been a lot more about 3-4 months ago as our contract was up last May . . . I like NOT having a contract and being contract free . . .

I text a few times a day so probably 200 a month? It's mostly with my DH and two daughters. Sometimes in the evening my BFF and I have a marathon text chat. I don't know how she types so fast!

It depends.

I try to remember to keep the cell with me, because I sometimes get a text from someone who is going through a personal crisis, and they need some sort of encouragement or reassurance.
