I make very few call these days, hubby, brother and a friend. My texrs are usually instead of a call and part of a on going converesation.
What bothers me sometimes, I see that a friend reads the text and takes hours to answer. Can any one be so busy not to answer for two minutes
Maybe I am too sensitive

Unless it is an emergency, I don't respond until I have time, or am alone. I view the mobile phone no different than the old land line. If someone called me and I wasn't home, they would not get a response until I got home and got their message. I don't let the phone rule my life. Just because it dings doesn't mean I have to respond.

The whole point of texting is convenience for all.You will get a response when they have time. They could be in the bathroom,at the doctors or napping etc.I don’t feel a text message is a top priority unless it is an emergency.

I answer texts at my leisure unless they are important. That's the beauty of texting, and it is my preferred means of communication. I don't like to talk on the phone.

Yes, they can be too busy to answer within a few minutes. But there are many other reasons people don't necessarily text back immediately. For instance, I don't keep my phone on my person every hour of every day. It sits in one spot in my house when I'm home and often I don't hear the texts come through. I don't stop every few minutes to see if someone has texted me, either.
It also depends on the person. Some respond relatively quickly, while others do not. I have one friend whose texting patterns drive me crazy. She can initiate a long conversation of back and forth texts, then just all of a sudden quit responding. Or she won't text back for hours or days. Or if I send a series of texts, she will reply to one but not the others.
It's like all other manners: some people have them and some don't.

I don't text at all and my family and friends know not to even bother texting me.
I prefer to hear the callers voice and tone, it's easier for me to determine the context than the written word.
If someone is too busy to speak to me, then they should be too busy to text me.
Just my personal opinion.

If you are looking for immediate back and forth you need to call. Texting allows for time gaps between responses.

I'm with you @KingstonsMom . I don't text. It takes time and effort and I'd prefer a fast phone call. Fast and simple.

I figure that ppl will text me back when they can, or when they want to. No big deal. But, I never knew that there is a way to know if someone actually read your text to them!
Amusing side note: I recently saw a news report that ppl now consider it rude if you leave them a voicemail, considering it an inefficient waste of time!

I don't either. It's either in my bag or on the counter charging or lying on a table somewhere where I accidentally left it. Some people have it attached to them.
