Is your electric company remotely adjusting your thermostat? Amid Texas heat, some are.
Apparently if you sign up for some sort of "saver plan" you give your provider access to your smart thermostat. many are reporting resets to 78 degrees with no way to override.
If you have a "smart thermostat" the energy company can connect and turn off the power sometimes in 30 minute or an hour intervals....Its called a "power saver rebate plan". I declined for CPS Energy to install a "smart thermostat" in my home and they really bugged me about it... It's my home and I want control of my thermostat.....I dont mind conserving and you have to if you want a reasonable energy bill, but my choice! Especially if I have a lot of food in my freezer....I dont trust CPSEnergy....

@patbz wrote:@granddi : When I lived in Ridgecrest CA (Mojave desert) I had the thermostat override on my AC and WE LOVED IT! It only affected our AC and 90% of our cooling was Swamp Cooler (water over straw pads with a fan pushing it throughout house). Only works in very low humidity but it is much cheaper than AC. We only maybe used AC when humidity was higher ( that seldom happened).
Sadly, our area is too humid, the humdity comes off the Texas coast, and especially Houston is very humid and was built over a swamp so that city cant use it....SA is humid but not quite as much as Houston...

This is from the Texas Tribune newspaper fromlast year-
Texas relies on a separate power grid from the two larger national grids and is in most respects not subject to federal regulation. The state can draw a very limited amount of power from out-of-state sources.
There are a couple of very small areas in Texas that are not on the Texas Grid and thus share in a multi state grid system. Having lived in one of these areas ie The Panhandle, and now in DFW, this power grid system is new to us and I guess that is why I'm so vocal. The other area is apparently far East Tx. Lubbock has just joined ERCOT.

I'm with you. Why would any person with common sense, turn over their ability to control their own homes environment, to some large conglomerate or government office?
Have them decide my comfort level based on what others decide works for them! Not in my world! Too many already have control over things in my life, many that I probably don't even know about! And I am going to knowingly, give them another piece of controlling my life? Ain't gonna happen.

Isn't Texas the oil capital of the US? I didn't realize Texas had invested so much in green energy.....
Lots of oil in Texas. Just not being drilled. And you know who can thank for that.

I find that insulting.
So do I.

Your darned right I do! It's those nasty gas stations, especially the mom and pops. Adding that penny per gallon is a disgrace. Heard that in some speech last week. Money hungry elites anyways.
The price per barrel goes down $5, and some of those greedy gas stations, they keep that penny in their till. For shame! 🤨

Yep, they can "get their hands outta my stuff and my business".....Just like even health care----- a friend cant even pay for her own treatments out of her own pocket, its a state law approval has to come from dr and insurance....so in the meantime she suffers in pain while she waits for approval and they take their time...no control over a person's own health, and its nothing dramtic just extensive orthropedic physical therapy, and all the creams and OTC stuff doesnt help ....SMH

Now this was an SA local problem ....There was a bit of defiance early on in the year when it was ONLY 93 and normal for that time of year.... CPS Energy asked people to conserve, but they were supposed to be all set for summer, and we learned that the CPS Energy building thermostat was set at 65 AND most employees were working from home so they were basically cooling an almost empty building---yet telling folks to conserve....So there was a backlash for that---and people took the Alamo mantra "come and take it"....but instead of a canon they incorporated an air conditoner.... a bit of humor and defiance, to show the energy company you better get your act together!!! And people said practice what you preach and cut the Execs bonuses off instead and upgrade the system...CPS energy also lied and said we wouldnt pay for the increase in market value for energy since it was Ercots fault....but we got the increase and its being applied for the next 25 yrs...😡🤬 So you can see why everyone was ANGRY!

So do I. She does this all the time-throws ignorant shots at Texas as though she knows all 28+million persons.
Best to ignore her. Not worth it.
