Terrible mud/landslide in Northern Washington State

18 people missing at this time, several dead. Rescuers can hear people screaming for help... but the land is so unstable it is difficult to reach them. Many homes destroyed

Yes, it is not far from Seattle to the mountain valleys which have really been hit by the torrential rain in such a short time, completely saturating the ground making it unstable. Closer to Seattle, the commuter train is closed on and off due to land slides on the tracks. This has been happening more and more as the years go by and we build up the sides of mountains and cliffs and pave the land below. They are still looking for survivors in this latest landslide. It's tragic.

Just awful ! Those poor people.

That must have been terrifying. I'm sure everyone is on edge waiting for it to happen again.

Everyone is on edge because the slide blocked the Stillaguamish River. There is concern that this could cause the nearby dam to be breached. So people have been evacuated.

I was just looking at pictures on the Everett Herald. Absolutely heartbreaking.
