First of all, I am probably in the majority who can't reach for the remote fast enough when they "go to the phones." Did they ever realize that sometimes we don't go back???

It used to be Jill B., and I don't see her anymore, so I don't know if she still does it. But Lisa R. does it all the time now. They take a call, and she tells the caller to "say hello to _____ .

All callers are adults, and don't need to be told what to say. It would certainly be polite to say hello to both Lisa and the vendor, but I don't find it necessary to tell the caller to do it.

Don't tell your customers what to do.
