Re: Teenagers getting Started Early

I agree most parents don't want their kids doing the nasty too young, but if kids have rageing hormones, so what to do! I was honest with my son about s-x and what the ramifications of unprotected s-x are. I told him about gowing up during the s-xual revolution and all the pitfalls. I told him I lived it so I know what he's dealing with and to never think that I would be mad or think less of him if he needed my help in any way. To make a long story short, my son said he always thought twice before engaging in risky behavior and bottom line was, Mom you took the fun  out of everything.LOL

Re: Teenagers getting Started Early

What parents are you talking about?  What's behind all this?  No, I don't believe there are many parents who want or approve of young teens be sekshually active.  No parent would want that but it happens.  Parents aren't with their teens 24/7 and even if instill good morals in a kid and set a good example; kids still have free will and will do what they want to do.  We live in a secksualized society that pushes it at our kids in tv, movies, music videos, songs etc.  And those awful reallity shows.  So, yes many teens are "doing it".  And when a 14 year old girl's parents find out, taking her to a gynie that specializes in adolscents and putting her on the pill is about all the parent can do.  All they can do is have the doc explain the risks of secks and explain protection to her.  Because telling her to STOP and grounding her for two weeks isn't going to make her stop.  Accepting something is not the same thing as approving or advocating for something.

Re: Teenagers getting Started Early

Too many young people are so self-absorbed about themselves to bother with disciplining a child.  What to do?  BE A PARENT.  Discipline your kid.

Also, people don't have any expectations of kids today that they behave, learn in school, or grow up and get a good job and be responsible for themselves.

Even professional and well-educated families today often have kids with low goals, and no expectations except money for nothingand the chicks (and cars and tv's and etc.) are free.  If mom and dad don't get them for you, the government will.

Too bad there can't be "mandatory" parenting classes for new parents.

It's bad enough when a pet owner doesn't know what they are doing, but clueless people multiplying really angers me.  JMO.

Re: Teenagers getting Started Early

This is an interesting post.   An acquaintance of mine hosted a female high school student from Europe a few years ago.

A very nice, bright girl.  But she wanted to bring her boyfriends over to spend the night.  My friend said no, that was against her rules.  The girl said her mother allowed it.

I do know that most European teens are much more sophisticated in terms of intimate relationships, and contraception is a norm there.

I don't agree with it, though.  I think all of that can wait until you are an adult.

However, I blame it on our media and culture. My sister teachers K-3, and she says you wouldn't believe of what the kids that age know and are aware of.  And the Pandora's box has been opened.  There's no turning back.

I guess the most you can do is teach your kids the values that you want them to have, but also be aware that there is peer pressure.

What does that mean?  Discipline your kid?  Discipline doesn't work, where there is a will, there's a way.

And for sure, teaching abstinence only doesn't work, thank you Bristol for proving that.

IMO the best way is to go over your values with your teen, then have a long talk about what can happen, meaning stds, pregnancy and getting used by someone they think is a good person.

Make sure your teen knows all about double protection, BC and condoms, and let them know they are available to her or him if it's going to happen.

Re: Teenagers getting Started Early

I can't believe some posters here think this is about today's parents.  Good grief, have people not read the Scarlet Letter?  Romeo & Juliet?

A young cousin of my father's got pregnant during WW2 by a young solider she had a crush on.

There were two girls in my high school graduating class who were pregnant.

This is nothing new, folks.

Re: Teenagers getting Started Early

Hi, Noel........Happy New Year to you and all here.  This is off topic: Wondering if you heard about (at Detroit Auto Show) a new car of the future that will offer electronics to be able to talk to other drivers on the road.?)  I caught the very end of it, and I was climbing stairs with a laundry basket, so I don't have any links.  Anyway, I just thought I'd ask you.  Sorry if I interfered with this thread.  Haven't read it yet, but I will later on.
