@SeaMaiden we live in the tacoma area but we would like to move out of Washington state.Too many people needing extra services for drugs and alcohol moving into the State.I don't think it is as safe an area as it once was.

Another tax that's nothing but government greed....they will spend it on nonsense & be back for more $$$$, it never ends.

We bought a case of 100% fruit juice in the City of Philadelphia. And were charged the Philadelphia Sugar Tax.
I feel bad - you go to the stores in Philadelphia and their area for soda, Gatorade etc gets smaller and smaller. I saw a 24 bottle case of Sparkling Ice (flavored water and vitamins) for $4.51 at Sam's, they can't sell the stuff in Philadelphia. But go a few blocks out of the City and people are packing their carts.
A case of soda costs more than a case of beer.

More fruit, more vegis, more protein....yes. Not more processed junk snack cwap food.
That's dandy until it affects something you purchase. Then you'll have a problem with it.
I agree sugar isn't good for you but I also don't think it's the governments business if people want to drink sugary drinks or eat sugary foods.
How about if next, they start taxing the you know what out of red meat, pastas, dairy, bread and any other food deemed "bad." Then let's move on to hiking the tax on any vehicles that don't get at least 36 miles per gallon because no one needs to be driving a gas hog. And on and on it goes.

I disagree with a goverment mandating what I can and cannot eat. What is this, the old Communist Russia? If the tax is excessive, it will be taken to court and they'll be forced to reverse it. That has already happened a a couple of other states. Why pick on soda anyway? Did they tax white bread or candy bars or fried chicken or Doritos or scotch???? Obviosuly that tax isn't about health, it's just a tax to fund programs that Seattle can't afford.

So I am sitting here drinking a cola and eating some M&M's reading this about this new tax on soda's, etc. and thinking to myself - how did my grandfather live to be 99? He ate bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits with LOTS of butter each morning. Loved his soda and sugars. He never was in the hospital till the day he had a heart attack and passed at the age of 99! He cut his own grass till he was 95 with a walk behind mower which I use as well - never owned a rider mower and never will. I hope I inherit his genes because he would not want any government official telling him what he could and could not eat, drink, etc! This is entirely an overreach of govenerment into our personal lives! No, I don't have high cholesterol, high blood pressure - neither did he. Thank God every day for this and I don't take it for granted, but I love sodas and sugar and will continue my 3pm snack!

One of the cities here in my state has a sugar-sweetened soda tax. But get this...there is a state university located in the city and it is exempt of that tax.

Again, really cute because it's not anything you're interested in.
How about:
Bananas
Kale
All tubers
Strawberries, etc.
