I'd like to see that, but watching USA Womens hockey. We are awesome!

They are doing really awesome!!!!! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

LOL that Johnny overpacked, I can only imagine all his luggage. He probably has separate suitcases for just his jewelry and accessories alone, then several more for shoes. I'm flipping back and forth to the Today Show, they haven't aired his piece yet.

Ice dancing on, Jules.

Re: Tara and Johnny, Ice Skating Commentary

Very pretty. I truly love Johnny & Tara together. The don't talk through the entire performance, they have an appreciation and let the viewers enjoy the music then save their comments for after. I really hope they do more commentary together, they are perfectly matched. I saw on the Today Show that they said Johnny has become really popular with his fashion and commentary, so obviously we aren't the only ones enjoying him.

Re: Tara and Johnny, Ice Skating Commentary

For some reason, I'm hardly watching the Olympics at all this time around. They just seem so boring... As for the commentary, I'm sure it's valuable, but for me, skating is performance art and part of enjoying the overall performance is watching it, hearing the music, and having it be uninterrupted... It appears they've turned the music down so low one can hardly hear it so it won't conflict with the pearls of wisdom dropping from the mouths of the commentators... Not my idea of a solid broadcast. Let us watch and enjoy them skating and then dissect the performance...

I like Tara & a big fan of Johnny's. I do like the old way of scoring though when they used 10's.

I've had no problem hearing the music. Haven't heard of any other complaints about it being too low. I will admit that the evening woman, Tracy, does shout over the eintire performance and is a major distraction. Tara and Johnny seem to know when and wher to drop their comments and when to listen and enjoy. Plus they are calmer and more soft spoken. I appreciate the knowledge of someone who has been ther and it helps me evaluate the performance.

Re: Tara and Johnny, Ice Skating Commentary

Did anyone see the piece they did on ice skating costumes on the Today Show? Of course Johnny was featured, he said some cute things, like he looked ridiculous 97% of the time when he was performing, but he owned it. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Then he was talking with Tara about the time he wore a chignon in his hair, or he called it a "man bun" and he laughed and said he pulled back his mullet and tied it tight, instant face lift, but he said it got caught in his costume zipper part way through his performance, so his head kept getting jerked back. It was funny when he did the motions to explain it. I bet he and Tara have too much fun working together.

ETA: I would love to see out takes from their commentary, like things that get said off the air and bloopers. I bet they are hilarious.

I just love Johnny Weir. He doesn't talk aimlessly to fill a void. In fact, he actually stops talking just to allow the audience to hear the music and concentrate on what is going on with the skaters and just absorb the performance.

When he does comment, it's to inform and not to prattle on. He's very knowledgeable about skating and they both bring a fresh perspective. And I love that he's knowledgeable about Russia and truly understands and is a fan of Russian culture.

{#emotions_dlg.thumbup} ITA Completely!!! I think I heard him say his in-laws are Russian.

I love the "Tara and Johnny" show, and I like the play by play commentator with them - Terry Gannon. The three of them have a great chemistry.

I was hoping we'd hear some commentary from Charlie White's long-time girlfriend Tanith Belbin. She's working for NBC too. She was asked in an interview if she could be objective. She said she could, but of course she was hoping they'd do well! Smile

I knew Johnny understands and speaks some Russian, didn't know why. He has been doing some interpreting and I thought perhaps it was just because of his world travels. Interesting if his in-laws are Russian. I wish Tara and Johnny would do all the ice skating commentary.

Johnny is actually fluent in Russian.

Re: Tara and Johnny, Ice Skating Commentary

Seldom do we get to compare and contrast commentary but if you watch in the morning live with T&J and then in the evening with the commentator of the day it's literally day and night.

Last night that Tracy was so bad with her play by play, twizzle by twizzle, knees and bouncing that if someone had shot her with a taser they would have gotten a Gold or at least a Bronze.
