Hi there,

Hope you are ok in this nasty heatwave, so humid and so hot out there.

I decided I wanted a nice white t-shirt for under some sweaters. Always heard I should try the ones at Land's End. Well, was initially pleased to get 20% - however, I only need one, since i have nice camisoles in all colors. When the final page came, it turned out that the S&H was $8.00. Yes, ladies, this miserable one t-shirt cost me $8.00 in shippping and handling. Thus I closed the page immediately. Too bad I don't live close to some of the cheaper stores, so will let it go.

Just for your information, hope not that the Q. is now going to raise their prices again too

I am beyond disgusted.

Re: Talking About High S&H ~~

You might check out LL Bean, Magenta. I had an email this morning about their Pima t-shirts being on sale and shipping is included in the prices...or was last time I ordered.

Re: Talking About High S&H ~~

Speaking of the 'closing the page and not completing the order' thing (who hasn't done that a million times? I know I have), one time I did that and thought all was good - until I get a shipping notice a few days later.

What the heck? Yeah, somehow or other, and even though I did not get a 'thanks for your order' or any other email, it completed itself. I've done that so many times over the years that it was just shocking. Took a while to get it fixed because I, then, had to wait until the parcel arrived to either refuse it or send it back.

Well, doncha know it, it was a 'hit & run' so I had to take it and get rid of it, then wait for, well, almost forever (or so it seemed) to get my money back. I stopped ordering from that retailer from that moment on. It was what I thought was a very well thought-of vendor, too.

Wow. I have backed out of orders multiple times and get emails pleading for me to come back.

One $10 pillow protector, they want $11 to ship. Another company wanted $18 to ship 2 pillow protectors that were $24. I wrote to them and they kindly stuck them in an envelope and shipped for free. The worst seems to be candles. One company wanted something like $18 to ship one candle, but other companies I found will ship any amount for $5 or $6.

Shipping and handling is not somehow free for retailers. Either they can charge you separately or build the cost into the price of the items. Either way, you are paying.

It costs money to pay someone to package the items. The package itself costs money. Shipping costs money. I do not understand why people are complaining.

Quite frankly, if I had been in the same position as the OP (and I live near a lot of nice stores), I would have been happy to pay the shipping to avoid wasting my time in traffic and dealing with the crowds.

Yeah, that was a pretty freak occurrence. I called them to explain it to them (to deaf ears and a bit of an attitude) and asked if maybe there was some way they could intercept the shipment (yes, it can be done) but they were not willing to do anything except do a return when it got back. I guess it's probably understandable, but my frustration was profound because I never completed the order.

Don't mind paying reasonable shipping, but when the shipping is almost as high as buying the item twice, that's when I cancel the order.

Same here. I have started to order some items and then it just wasn't worth it for the shipping. When the shipping costs more than the item it is rarely something I need that badly.

While this is true, psychologically we feel like we are getting something special when they offer free shipping.
