My friend was just telling me about a wedding invitation her daughter had recieved. First of all the wedding is on Christmas eve - at a hotel not a church. So, it was addressed to my friend's daughter, her DH and their 2 young daughters who are 8 & 10. She thought how nice that the girls were invited and that they would be thrilled to see a real live bride. then she looked at a card that was enclosed with the invitation which saidSmiley Frustratedince we are in an established relationship (i guess that is code for we live together) for many years we would like to request all gifts be in cash to help with the cost of the wedding. The cost to us is $150/plate. Thank you for understsanding. My friend's daughter respectfully declined the invitation via an e-mail and the bride called her to ask why they aren't coming. My friend's daughter said that they could not afford $600 for a wedding gift esp. right at Christmas so they could not attend , but even if they would have been able to afford it that Christmas eve is for going to church, family dinners and getting all the kids toys etc out for Christmas. it is not for going out to party all night once you have a family.

My friend's daughter did feel badly that her girls were going to miss seeing the bride - but she said otherwise it felt pretty good to tell her off - as nicely as possible , of course.
