Maybe the new Halloween arrival at Marshalls was a delay meant for Halloween 2021.  Ha ha!

@FlightQVC    Good point!  I was in Hobby Lobby a week ago and they were already putting out Fall decor.  I love fall and always look forward to seeing what's new...but early June is a bit much.

The last time I was in a Hallmark store, they were putting out Christmas ornaments on week of the 4th of July.

QVC starts Christmas shows in June.  It used to be "Christmas in July," but now it is June.  QVC also sells sandals in January.  Many parts of the USA are up to their waistlines in snow and QVC sells sandals.  That's our retail world.

@Mersha

This thread made me think about a retail executive I met on a plane ride back home.

Somehow we chatted about seasonal products and shipping schedules.   I told her I'd been told if I want to buy a new bathing suit I should be looking for it starting in February, not August.

She said people should stop waiting for the season to arrive to buy those needed articles.

The bottom line was, regardless of season, buy it when it shows up in the stores.     Just adapt, and you'll always have the best selection to choose from.

Makes a great deal of sense, IMO.

@Tinkrbl44  I guess this our new "normal" for purchasing.

I can understand fall things showing up in craft stores as people make those decorations ahead of time.

It was just so surprising Marshall's is doing this also.  Again, it could have been delayed shipments from last year but who knows?

yes of course if product floods in, they may have to reduce price to move it along.  you can then take advantage of the savings for forward needs.

i have always been ahead on everything.   i am even more so now.

I can see buying it if I need it and the cost is lower.  I'll take my chances on buying stuff, just because it's available to purchase.  I shop on as need basis.  If there is something I need that is not readily available to me, I just wait.  I could do something else with that money.  It just depends on who it is.  Some benefit by this approach.

Here's the thing .....   if retailers get shipments from vendors, there is no reason whatsoever to let it sit in their warehouses until the holiday is closer.  Ship it off to the stores as soon as possible because some people actually like to buy things in advance .... they get to pick the best stuff from the selections before anyone else is even thinking about that holiday.

Merchandise just sitting in a dark store room makes no sense ... put it out on the sales floor!

@Tinkrbl44 I have stopped buying summer things and am only interested in clothing that will be good for fall and winter wear. To me it is a better value to buy it early and wear it all season than buy it at the end and basically put it up for next year.

of course, whatever works for you.

being prepared is what works for me.   i really have no patience for not having what i need/want when i need/want it.    i also feel so bad when others whine about not finding something when they wait until they exactly need it.   they just need to realize the continued issues and how things have changed.    notice some of the comments tell me some are not aware.

Yep.  What I offered is what works for me.  I don't need a lot.  Food, shelter.  Now, like I said if it's something that I must have (not want) ~ then of course, I'll buy it.  Things that are must haves in my life, pertain to my dwelling, and well being.  Not gifts for people, (shoes fo me, ummm, errr) well not anymore!  I don't shop just for the sake of shopping.  Can't do that since I retired.  I had a dear relative who told me not to get must haves mixed up with my "want to haves."  I follow that advice.  FOMO (fear of missing out) has never been an issue for me.

I do what I gotta do, as I'm sure we all do.
