Re: TIA? (Transient Ischemic Attack)

I concur with the suggestion to not wait and go to the emergency room immediately, the medical staff would at least observe and monitor your vitals. In my case the doctors believed a piece of plaque broke off and went through, unlike a stroke, it kept moving. High blood pressure is serious. Please take the symptoms seriously.

Thanks ladies. I am pretty sure I had one in the middle of the night last night. My blood pressure has been up. 187/104 this evening so I guess I will call the Dr on Monday.

Why are you on here posting?????.....have some one take you to the ER and contact your Dr.

My blood pressure one time when I was in my doctor's office was 190/100.....he made me lie down and kept a very careful eye on me, and the girl was continuously checking my pressure. That is stroke level.

This is nothing to wait around for.......

Re: TIA? (Transient Ischemic Attack)

My sister was talking to my dad on the phone at my house when he started talking gibberish. She told him to give the phone to me, described what he'd said and I immediately took him to the ER. They diagnosed it as a TIA. When we got back home several hours later, he couldn't find the bathroom but afterwards he recovered rapidly. He had a heart attack two months later which resulted in his death shortly thereafter.

This is definitely nothing for her to fiddle with. And, hope she has taken our advice. We'll find out eventually.

Re: TIA? (Transient Ischemic Attack)

I suggest reading online information on what symptoms might be a stroke happening or one about to happen. If in doubt it is better to err on the side of caution when you are talking about the brain and/or the heart being damaged.

I have never had a stroke but have had 2 heart attacks. With the 2nd heart attack I knew I was going to have one before it actually completely blocked my right coronary artery. Recognized I didn't feel quite right and moved as quickly as I could under the circumstances to get into my house and call 911.

My wife had a stroke in late December and fortunately we didn't wait around for acute symptoms before going to the ER. It was a mild stroke and one that effected only the left side of her body. Her shoulder/arm/hands/fingers/feet and toes. She is still working to regain total strength in her last 3 fingers of her left hand.

She spent 10 days in the hospital with 8 of them in the wing of the hospital that is In-patient Stroke Therapy. She had many hours of different types of therapy over those 8 days. Occupational/Physical and Speech Therapy. After her hospital release I took her to therapy 3 times a week and each day was a 3 hour session, 1 hour with each type of therapy. This was for 14 weeks and she could not drive a motor vehicle for 3 months after her stroke.

John, yes, you would know what to do.....having experienced what you have been through yourself and with your wife.

Hopefully she called 911 and got an ambulance to take her to the hospital..... And truly hope she didn't drive herself......

Am so glad your wife has done so well recooping from her stroke......

Re: TIA? (Transient Ischemic Attack)

Silver Lotus, to you from me get your self to the hospital immediately and get checked out. From experience I want to tell you it is no picnic taking care of a person who didn't think it was necessary to go to the hospital when they thought this was happening to them. In stead they waited until it turned into a major stroke and left the person completely disabled ( no speech, no use of their right side of their body). Do you have any idea what it like to live with some one who can not tell you what they want to eat or drink or what is hurting them because their speech is gone. I could tell you first hand what kind of a life it was for many years get to the hospital!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
