@Moonchilde Unfortunately, I've seen Capitola look like that several times over the years. At least I haven't heard of all the restaurants and businesses being flooded this time around. I remember once as a teenager walking down there and sitting on a bench. Next thing a knew a wave came out of nowhere and washed completely over me. I've no idea why I walked the 2+ miles down there when the weather was that bad. But I do remember being soaked from head to toe.
Kind of sad to me is the further destruction of the cement ship a bit further south. I can remember being able to walk out almost to the end of it when I was young.

@juperier, the windows of Zelda's, the restaurant on the beach end of the Esplanade, had been boarded up. I don't think any of the restaurants were open for brunch! I was surprised that the "beach" erodes there every winter and the sand is deposited back by the waves by summer.
Yes, everyone's talking about the cement ship. I guess it's been there around 100 years. I've never been to see it - I just arrived to live in the area last March.
We should be "getting started" in the next couple of hours - wind, heavy rain and possible thunder and lightning, maybe even hail.

@Moonchilde Yeah, I'm sure all the businesses along the creek boarded their windows. Waves have taken the windows out several times in the past. If you search "Capitola flood" on youtube, there are lots of videos of the last major flood there. That water came from the "land" side tho.
To me, the cement ship was a lot more interesting when it was a bit more intact. I bet it was amazing it it's heyday.
Hopefully, we'll get through tonight's storm with minimal additional damage to the area.

Moonchilde, how are the winds? How are houses holding up? Thanks for posting the pictures: officials must positively be pulling their hair out over cleanup and restoration....restoration along the shores of virtually every coastal community is a hot mess!

Hi @CareBears
I like winter, too, but I am beginning to dread it. SF has had virus after virus going around, and the big drugstores have almost run out of OTC meds.
The Mid-Atlantic has not been any better. There was a hideous Norovirus making the rounds and a wicked sinus infection that required one of my friends to receive IV antibiotics. Her face was swollen and she couldn't bend at the waist. Over a week later she still has issues.

Interesting you mentioned that @Cookie2025. My daughter finally went to the doctor this morning for a horrible sinus infection she gasn't been able to kick. She's on antibiotics also.
@Noel7 Good luck - it is no longer a regional issue.
I had a nasal swab which is a six inch rod (metal) with a bristle end (like a bottle washer). They stick the rod down your nose. Going in hurts. The lab tested for 10 different viruses. My nose is aching just thinking about that procedure.
I will keep your daughter in my prayers. You can depend on whatever this is to hang around.
ps - full disclosure - I don't know if the nasal swab device was metal but in my crazy head it was.

Stiff winds coming from the south with small craft advisories up. I was up and down all night: all the commercial fishermen came in and nobody went out this AM!
We will possibly be having gale force winds tonight and with the clash of warm and cold air, tornadoes are a threat. Georgia is getting slammed.
The marine life seems to know something is afoot: on Charlotte Harbor on the south side, there have been huge pods of dolphin today! I saw huge schools of fish-probably mullet-swimming under our dock and headed east, but they were on a mission: nobody was jumping out of the water as they normally do.....
I'm seeing a lot of pelicans, but the osprey are nowhere to be seen and neither are the parakeets. I think we will be having dinner early tonight!

@Poodlepet2, the winds woke me once last night with something (minor) hitting the house. The house is very solid and you normally can't hear rain or wind. My niece said it was scary for hours last night and she was waiting for the crack of a tree - the house has many huge trees around. Quiet now, but more coming in a few hours, one last deluge.
Anywhere I might want to go today is either having flooding (including our road out), debris flows or slides. A small/possible tornado was detected in Monterey.

@Moonchilde I didn't notice the wind at all. We have double glass windows. I guess they blocked enough of the sound that it didn't wake me up. One of the nail said that lives in the San Jose area said the wind where she lives was so stong that it picked up their trampoline and moved it over the fence into their neighbor's yard and house. Her husband and the neighbor couldn't get it back over the fence, so they ended up cutting it up.
