@KathyPet I had saved all of my daughter's Fisher Price Little People toys from the '80's. She's now 34. I pulled them out last year for our grandchildren and I ended up tossing them. They didn't look safe at all to me, compared to the things currently on the market.
But, all of her toys said "Made in the USA." You hardly ever see that anymore.

YEs that is what I thought. I would not give the original wooden ones to any child to play with.

I am in the same boat as you. I also have the original Teddy Ruxpin and countless other original toys....including the original Princess Lea and Luke Skywalker dolls. My youngest daughter is 40 years old, my oldest 46 and I never got rid of their toys....original Fisher Price toys, original Strawberry Shortcakes, all stored away.
The problem is, I can no longer get into the attic and they don't seem to care one way or another about them. My granddaughter has enjoyed the Fisher Price magic show and the Weebles house.

@Nataliesgramma I know. Most kids these days, if it isn't electronic.....it's just not neat.
That's why I'm so happy when I go over my daughter's house and her son is drawing and/or playing with his Lego's. He builds the most fun things! Most importantly, he's using his imagination.
Don't get me wrong....he's put them aside in a minute if offered his IPAD, but my daughter only allows him to use it for a limited amount of time. I've been there when she's taken it away and can I just say, "World War III". Ha!
Because my son-in-law has a computer business he gets electronic things pretty cheap, so he has his own IPAD. The good things about electronic things is the child is learning and playing at the same time.
I think if I had tons of money I would buy Ipads for children in distressed neighborhoods because they could learn with them and it would help them have a heads-up when they started school. I think that's where SOME of the disparity starts. Some kids have access to these things very early on and other children don't.
The problem would be to not allow the parents to take the things and sell them to get the money. Sound harsh? Ha! My friend's church group did just what I was talking about and found out that a lot of the parents sold the IPads (not for food but cigarettes, etc). Ugh!

I think by the time a kid is 5 years old he/she is old enough not to put those things in their mouths. If not...good grief! They need to be taught!
