I like Summer a lot too, and here in the Midwest , our summers are short. What I don't like is when it is real humid.....It just makes it miserable to do anything outdoors then. I love Fall, and I don't even mind Winter, as long as it isn't icy and snowy, but the cold doesn't bother me....

I can see what some of the ladies that live in the South are saying-they have much longer summers, and much more humidity than we do, and there is rarely a break in the heat for months on end.....My sister used to live in Dallas, and I went to visit once in May and once in September, and both times it was hot and humid.....I mean really hot 95 and climbing...Different Strokes for Different Folks!.

For me, the summer season is also not my favorite.  Even though I live on the NJ coast, I've never been one for the beach.   Don't get me wrong, if it's a nice day with low humidity and the temperature is not too high, I like it.  But, here NJ summers are rarely that.  It's usually quite humid with days of blazing heat.

I can easily take the cooler, crisp days of Fall.  For me, it makes me feel more energetic and alive!   At night, the crackle and warmth of the wood burning in the fireplace puts me in a calm, comforting place.

The picture above shows the difference in the daylight hours between the northern and southern hemispheres.  On the winter solstice the bell shapes will be reversed. On the spring and autumn equinox the daytime/nighttime hours are the same.

June is my favorite month because everything is in bloom and so lush and green! I love Spring because everything starts to grow again and the birds migrate back, especially the hummies! I hope everyone who reads this has a very safe, fun and happy Summer!

The day of the summer solstice is my favorite day, but also my saddest as I know our amount of daylight per day will slowly start to go backward.

I don't hate summer.  I hate humidity.  It can be in the 90s but if the humidity is really low and there is a breeze I can deal with it.  On the other hand at 75 degrees if the humidity and dew points are high I am miserable.

@CANDLEQUEEN  we live in central Wisconsin and you've summed it up well. I like the low humidity we've had this week.

So much for the longest day of the year and the first day of summer! Our high in my area of Missouri was 72 and we've had strong thunderstorms and heavy rain since this morning! It's a dark and dreary first day of summer for us!

People are still snow skiing here. There will be fresh snow, like about 6 inches, up there this weekend. Better 'slip on them boards on the roof' (of the car) as the truckers would say.

It's hard to believe it's the longest day of the year already.  After today, they only get shorter.

About 10,000 gathered this morning at Stonehenge to celebrate the start of the longest day of the year.  They gather of course before sunrise, and cheer the sun as it rises above the horizon.
