Re: Subway Rider Nightmare in NYC

@They CallMe MRWILKES  - All the years I rode BART to and from work here in the Bay Area, I used to shake my head at the people who had these huge backpacks that stuck way out and they never removed them.  The cars would be jammed with people and those backpacks would get stuck in the doors all the time.  Luckily, nothing like your story ever happened but often trains would be put out of service because the doors couldn't close due to a backpack!  That must have been a horrifying incident for the victim as well as the passengers who witnessed it.

Re: Subway Rider Nightmare in NYC

My friend lost her big toe in an escalator. Long story but it happened b/c my friend had on a pair of long flowy pants. One of the pant legs got caught in the teeth of the escalator and pulled her foot into it and then her toe was stuck in there along with it. Paramedics had to amputate to get her freed. She's lucky she didn't lose more than just the big toe.

Re: Subway Rider Nightmare in NYC

UPDATE:  After initial reports of a backpack, it appears that a shopping bag of some sort was caught in the closed doors as the train left the station.  The victim didn't release the bag and was dragged under the train.

This is even more tragic to me, since he could have easily let go of the bag.  No possessions are worth the risk.

Re: Subway Rider Nightmare in NYC

That's really scary, same can happen in those plane trains at airports. A friend got his caught in the doors and had the wherewithall to just let it go. He caught up with it at the end of the trail for the particular train. When something like this happens, I would imagine your mind just doesn't work right and panic sets in. Sad situation for this rider.
