Whenever that's happened to me I have to shut the computer down to make it go away.

Learning computers on my own was, to say the least very frustrating period of time for me. Each time I figured out 1 solution another thing would come up with say a peripheral and more frustration. Fortunately for me I kept working at it and over years learned to solve many of the problems and try my best to keep up with technology, but am not always successful for sure.
Since I have been involved with some type of electronics since my high school years I have never let them get the best of me. Had many a time when I would walk away from whatever I was doing to clear my head and start thinking again without the frustration entering my mind. This always helped and at times I would stay away for hours or days to do this.
If it is something I feel I can figure out on my own and am usually up to the task. If I know I need help I have a couple friends that are in different areas of technology as their occupation and they know a lot more than I do about certain things pertaining to this topic.
Strange things happen with these high tech machines and I learned a long time ago that the solution to me is more important that "what might have causes the problem". I learned early on it would take me much more time trying to learn the "why" of it and finding a "solution" to fix it was more important to me in the long run. Much different that when I was working on race engines where without knowing what caused the problem could be very expensive and usually without that knowledge there was never a long term solution. Not so with most of the high tech gadgets of today. Find the solution and I move on.

When I first started working in automation support back in the 80s, the line printers we had were Diablo brand. I learned very quickly that Diablo (the devil) was the PERFECT brand name for a printer. Even the new printers and printer software have times that they make the most astute automation person NUTS!

Funny. That's one of the reasons I preferred working with computers and even nasty printers over working with people.....that off switch!
