@Spurt    The whole 35 years I lived in Texas, I never saw a cardinal, not even in the big Yupon Holly grove on our deer lease near Madisonville.  I adore cardinals but we don't have them in NM either.   Yes, I'm in a suburban neighborhood too.  We do have these.

Beep Beep!!!!---Road Runner---they are the mascot for one of our local colleges here--UTSA ....their football team was 12-1 this season....

WOW!!! That's disappointing you didnt get to see some Cardinals. The Cardinals are all around our area, in fact a couple love to sing from my Crepe Myrtle tree every morning and one of my cats recognizes their unique song and runs out to the patio to see them!!!

Animals are reliable, full of love, true in their affections, grateful. Difficult standards for people to live up to.”

It's beautiful.  I'm glad it's got its freedom to wander.

Thanks for sharing.

@Enufstuff. Thank you for keeping your kitties inside. I lost a kitty man many years ago when we moved to a neighborhood that I was unaware had coyotes. We were in a busy city. That’s all it took for me to learn to never leave my cats outside. I used to own a Maine Coon among many other breeds over the years. Wonderful kitties

We don't have wild turkeys here in SE PA - only turkey vultures.  They glide through the air and roost on the peaks of our condo buildings.  Seems like they only come around this time of year - I haven't noticed them other times.

@Teddixat

       I'm sorry that you also lost a cat to coyotes. In recent years,

many people in our area have lost cats. One woman in the next town was walking her dog one morning and her little dog was

attacked by a coyote. No small pets should be left out in the yard

in this environment. It is sad because the pets love the outdoors.

       It is rare to see an outdoor cat anymore; most people keep them inside. I know that my 5 year old Maine Coon is missing all the adventures that my previous cats had in our yard. They loved climbing the maple trees, watching the birds and squirrels, chasing pinecones and acorns and hiding in bushes and piles of leaves in the fall. They loved to roll in the grass and smell the flowers. On a hot day, they would find a cool spot to hide in the hosta plants, or just lounge on a wicker chair on the porch. But now, we just have to keep them safe indoors.

      Aren't Maine Coons the best? They are so sweet and lovable and playful and very smart.

Since Cardinals came up on this thread,  I will chime in. We had friends visiting here from Wyoming, but their home originally was in Oregon. With all the beautiful scenery and wildlife they have seen, she about went crazy when one morning she was looking out our kitchen window and exclaimed, "WHAT IS THAT RED BIRD?" She had never seen one and was amazed. We get around 50 at a time in the winter eating at the bird feeders. The bare tree is decorated with lots of red with them.
