Here's another wrinkle ......
In regular, traditional cemetaries, the coffins can still deteriorate significantly .... they leak and the formaldehyde used to preserve the body suddenly is in the ground, and can affect the water table .... and the water we drink.
Not a very pleasant thought.

Just thought of one of the BEST "burials" of all time IMO ....
Gene Roddenberry, creator of the Star Trek series, wanted to be buried in space.
When he passed away, he was cremated and his ashes were later scattered from the Pegasus XL over the Canary Islands.
I wouldn't mind being scattered in space ..... see link below.
H&I | Did you know Gene Roddenberry had his ashes launched into space? (handitv.com)

You can bury someone on your own land in my state right now. No permits needed as there are no restrictions.
There is actually someone buried on the land we own. They told us when we bought the place.
No it doesn't bother me.
As for a "green burial" - hard pass.
After what came out a couple years ago about Biological Resource Center, I would never consider donating my body or any of my family members bodies to science.........

@GenXmuse wrote:My mother had a green burial which is based on the same principle. Also better for the environment not to leach all the the embalming fluid into the ground.
We have a friend whose wife had a burial like this. I had never heard of it b4. There is a special area in the cemetry for this kind if burial.

This from the same one that signed banning the sale of gas powered vehicles in 2035. And the same one the urged residents not to charge their EV during certain hours, turn your AC up/5 minute showers, etc etc.
Nothing from him shocks me anymore, just another 🤔

Speaking as a Californian, he beats the heck out of the alternatives in several other states right now! Might I add … you'll notice this did not originate in California; it is already legal in a few other states.

Guess those states didn't make the news, or at least I didn't see or hear about it.
No power grid that is struggling now to supply the necessary power, with about 1% being an EV? Better figure out how to improve the power grid before passing any laws about banning sales of naturally aspirated internal combustion engines.
I am far away from the state he rules, and if you are happy with him? Doubt many other states would try to pry him away. My state sure won't.

@gertrudecloset Against human composting, yes.
The RCC approves of natural (green) burials, however. Many Catholic cemeteries now have natural (green) burials.
That's interesting. What I've read and what was provided my someone else in a cited article says the "Church" frowns upon it.
@gertrudecloset At one time unbaptized babies could not be buried on consecrated ground in cemeteries. They were buried on the outskirts of the cemetery.
At one time cremation was forbidden.
Here is a quote from Fr. Morris who headed the first Catholic green burial cemetery certified by Green Burial Council in MI.
Father Charles Morris, former administrator of the first Catholic cemetery certified by the Green Burial Council, Mount Carmel in Wyandotte, MI, summed it up this way in an article published in 2012: “Nature, the gift God has given us, is intended to shelter us during our lifetime, and again after we no longer inhabit our bodies.
As with all living organisms when no longer viable, our bodies may be recycled into new life. Nature doesn’t create waste, and when we bury our bodies without anything that slows down the natural processes, our bodies become one with the earth and with nature—and thus with God.
And if this is God’s plan for us to dwell in the soil that produces life on Earth, why would we pollute the gift He has given us by putting chemicals and concrete and other things there? …
There is no more appropriate way to honor our Catholic Christian tradition of Resurrection faith than by fitting into a natural cycle of death and rebirth where we honor both our loved ones and God’s good earth.”1

Seems the "we do what it takes", does not include the one who signed the bill. While telling others, in a TV interview, to "turn up your AC"? He is wearing a jacket! Seems a smart person would know how to dress, while telling others, "we are all in this together"! Uh huh

The other states are listed prominently in the original post … And, yes, I would rather have someone like Newsom than any number of other possibilities currently making news in other states. You do your state, and I'll do mine.
