I was told that all the phone calls I was getting was a scam. Eventually they were using MY phone number to call other people who would then CALL me and leave a message, like Why the %$# are you calling me.
The guy at AT&T said that blocking these numbers did no good as the number then changed and there are trillions and trillons of these changes and said even he gets them. He could only suggest changing my number and then NOT answer the phone at all, let it ring and go to message, which is what I've told my friends, then I call them. When you answer you've just let the automation know that you have a viable number, they log it in and then use it.
When the morning came that I got over 50 of these calls by noon I changed my phone number and let it go to voice mail!

Do NOT call back --- they're mostly SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!! The phone number showing in the caller ID is usually not theirs.

Just do not answer the phone ... otherwise they will call you again and again and again.
I kept getting calls from different numbers but each time it was a man with a thick middle eastern accent trying to sell a home security system. When I'd say I've already told him no, please stop calling, I'm on the Do Not Call Registry...he'd cuss me out then hang up. I'd block the number but he'd call back using a different one. I reported it and was told the only thing they can recommend is to stop answering calls from numbers I don't recognize. Sad that's the only remedy. I think the guy should be held accountable in some way. I was told they are working on regulations to make the phone companies address it, but seems that ultimately passes on restrictions or costs to consumers.
Again do not answer the phone! Do not have a conversation with them, just ignore the call or get a voice mail device.

@apple1964 I know how to deal with unwanted calls and have been in touch with authorities. No need to get so worked up.

Your exclamation point, commanding tone, and green font suggested you were getting worked up.

Me again! I'm not answering them at all. Being I'm in charge of our Parish Prayer Line I thought maybe someone wanted to leave a request but didn't, so that's the only reason why I called that number back and got the message that that number is not in service. That was strange to me being they just called me. It's not strange getting these calls, I have been getting them for years and ignore them. I won't be calling back anymore that's for sure.
Thanks for your informative responses. Have a blessed Sunday!
