thanks showme that's interesting. i will start looking up unknown numbers to see also. the criminals should not be allowed to bother us. but they do.

Well, you may be certain that they are hoping someone will fall for what they are offering. Think I will be checking out more numbers......am going to checkout the bankcard service no. next.....just to see what I can find on them.

Wow.....lots of complaints on Google on this number too. And folks are saying they do get hung up on if they tell them they don't want calls from them. That number is registered to Swiftell Communications out of Athens, GA.

Another one to hang up on and not call them back......

Re: Strange phone call from ""Windows"" telling me that...................

By the way, just because the caller ID tells you the call is from say Cleveland, OH, it doesn't mean the caller is there.

The other day I had a call from St. Jude's Hospital wanting me to contribute to a new machine they are needing to treat Leukemia in in those precious children. I told the caller I am a regular contributor to St. Jude's, and did not want to receive these calls. Somehow I found out the caller was in Arizona and not where the Caller ID said it was coming from. Think I will have to check out that number too.....just to see whose name the number is in.

Ok, I just googled that St. Jude's number......it was apparently made from a home.....probably a volunteer worker......but, you never know.

But that is strange.....caller ID says area code 618 (which is across the river from St. Louis), and the caller said she lives in Arizona.......just odd......

I had 3 calls today from the same number in Michigan. I answered the 3 call from them to tell them to quit calling. He told me he was from Windows......and as soon as he said that I told him I didn't need anything from him......that Dell handles all my problems with my computer.....No problem getting rid of him. He didn't get nasty or anything like that. I did say that I don't want any more calls from them.

it could be informative googleing the caller id number showme. i wonder what you will find.

That's a good thought. Might do that. Will let you know. Will do that very shortly, so hang around for my response to that.

Heck, I get calls every week from a Bank Card Service.....telling me this is the final notice to receive help from them on my credit cards.....I usually don't answer those kinds of calls, but have picked up the phone sometimes before they are finished and then tell me to hit #2 to get help.....when someone answers, I say to them "quit calling me, I don't have any credit cards"......and they hang up. You would think they would eventually quit calling....but nope, they aren't giving up. I stand there laughing out loud at them, and say you are a fool.

Well, found out it isn't from Windows......and there are a lot inquiries about that number. Boy, hope no one falls for this..... Very sad that this kind of stuff goes on.

I guess you could call me getting old....in my 70's......but am still pretty darn sharp and have my wits about me all the time. Just don't fall for that kind of stupid stuff.

Hi, ShowMe! I'm glad you're checking on these and being cautious. That's great! You are very sharp and have your wits about you.Smile

I can tell the others here are the same way. Can't be too careful.

I just had a phone call from "Microsoft" last week. I had not heard of this scam. They told me I had a virus on my computer that would erase everything I have online. I told them I wasn't having any problems with the computer...they insisted I turn on my computer because I DO have a virus. I said I did not and hung up. The Caller ID said it was a number in Alabama. Thanks for letting us know it's a scam! I am not computer experienced and it helps a lot to know these things!!!

How do I get rid of Pop-up Ads?

Download Adblockplus Liz. It works great and blocks 99% of all ads.

I'm not sure but the Adblockplus might only work if you use Firefox as your internet browser.

I use it on other browsers, too, not just Firefox. I'm pretty sure it's available for Safari, Chrome and IE.

Hi dear friend. Yes, we can't be too careful when it comes to phone calls or e-mails, or someone ringing our doorbell. It would be hard to pull the wool over my eyes.....LOL

Yes, we do have some pretty sharp posters on here.

Re: Strange phone call from ""Windows"" telling me that...................

Okay, I honestly didn't think I would ever get one of these phone calls, but I just did. Like all of you that have received these calls mentioned, he starts off "Hello ma'am, I'm calling about your windows." I cut him off and said "What about my windows? I can see out of them just fine." He says, "No, your windows operating system on your computer, you have a virus and I'm calling to help you." So I told him, "Oh, then I know you are full of kr*p because I don't have a computer." He hung up. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

We have caller ID and the number showed up name unknown, and only 6 digits, but with a country code then - and 4 numbers. The only reason I answered is that we have relatives in the UK. Makes you wonder where they route these calls from to cover them up. Oh well, at least I didn't get called any filthy names, LOL.
