Strange Occurence

I have a little music box / small table that my parents bought in Italy when we were there the summer I turned 13. Since both my parents died many years ago I have had possession of this little music box table. It has moved with me several times. I have not wound it up to play in years. I seem to recall that the last time I did, that it didn't work any longer, but I might be remembering incorrectly.

Last night, after eating dinner, the music box started to play. I was home alone (except for my 2 cats) and I was sitting maybe 15-20 feet away from the box when it started to play.

I was quite startled, as you might imagine. It played for maybe a minute, slowing down and fading out (as music boxes do).

This morning I turned the box over and wound the key that starts it and it did play, but how on earth did it start to play last night?
