Hiding rubber ducks (the miniature ones) is gaining popularity.  So is decorating your stateroom door with different magnets to create a theme.  I like to watch cruise review videos on YouTube and some people go all out.

Jeeps and ducks are also having their moment.

I've been on a few European cruises with Viking the last couple of years and haven't seen any ducks or door decorating.  I guess it happens more on a party type of cruise in the Caribbean.

I'm going to Alaska in May on Princess.  Never been on that line and should be interesting.

We went on a Holland America cruise last summer and everyone was included in the scavenger hunt for the ducks. I was lucky enough to find one and I still  have it. I was unable to participate in a lot of the activities due my disability but that was one I loved doing! A fun memory!

Re: Strange Cruise Question

[ Edited ]

I cruise multiple times a year. On my last cruise in December, I brought ducks to hide. I got a little bored with that so whenever I saw a child in a stroller or holding onto a parent's hand, I would ask the parent if it was ok for me to give them a duck. All said yes and the kids would light up when I'd hand it to them. My ducks had litttle sailor hats on their heads.

Yipes!  I've been on dozens of cruises, mostly on Holland America and fortunately have never been aware of this activity.  I have better things to do on a cruise than to hunt for ducks--LOL!!!

Activities on cruise ships is subjective. I will show up at any trivia or bingo. Others enjoy the alcohol tasting, movies, classes, shows, some even go to the gym. On a Princess cruise from LA to the Hawaiian islands my dad, sister and I took ukulele lessons. I treasure those memories for ever. With my mom watching us while knitting. For a moment in time we were taken back to the old under one roof days.
