I've never heard of hiding ducks, but it's been years since I've cruised. Perhaps that's something specific to a certain cruise line.

I think that TripAdvisor's cruise forum could be a great source of information, or to visit to have questions answered.

I just googled "hiding ducks on cruise ships." It seems like this is associated with Carnival Cruise lines. It is an unofficial scavenger hunt with passengers decorating rubber ducks and hiding them around the ship for other passengers to find.

This is on Carnival Cruises.  My grandchildren love it.  My grandson bought yellow duckies for himself and his little sister to hide on the ship and then they go look for others not theirs) that have been hidden.  My granddaughter found one of the golden ones (hidden by cruise line) and received a piece of jewelry as a prize!..They have collected so many duckies, my grandson no longer has to purchase any.....he, just, recycles them!!

Sounds like a ploy to keep the kids busy and out of parental hair.
