I received an invitation to a baby shower this past week. The return address was someone I did not know, nor had ever heard of, who lived just over the state line from my home in a town maybe 45 minutes away. The invitation stated it was for a female first name only, again not a name I knew, listed a location in another town nearby for the actual shower, and two places they were registered along with a number to RSVP.

I racked my brain trying to figure out who this could be, I asked my daughter if it was one of her friends, asked my husband if it was maybe one of his coworker's wife that I had not met, I was clueless!

Finally I mentioned to my mother off-hand about the mystery invite and she told me she had gotten the same one and it was for a distant cousin I have seen once in three years. The friend throwing the shower for her listed the first name they have chosen for the baby as the person the shower was for with no other identifying information. My mom only knew because she happened to see mention of the baby's chosen name on Facebook.

I know I could have called the RSVP number and asked who it was but that seemed awkward and quite frankly I didn't want to chase down who wanted a gift from me that badly!

I am just venting but I really wish people would return to the "old fashioned" proper ways of handling these types of social interactions. This was really silly.
