In order to scare the you-know-what out of their viewers, storm reporters have said the following:

1. The winds will snap the telephone poles in half!

2. The storm will continue all day Sunday!

3. Sleep on the first floor 'cause your roof will fall in!

4. Be sure to have enough food for a week!

Can you believe they actually said these things!!!

This is why it's so troubling to some of us!

I totally get being smart, prepared, organized, careful, etc. But the stuff they say is just so far beyond the pale that it probably doesn't help reasonable, rational people. But it DOES make crazy people more likely to do crazy things that will put others at peril.

I wish they could just report it as it is - no embellishment and no fear-mongering. Just stick with facts that maybe suggestions that are supported by the facts.

I've been watching Netflix all day but DH did turn on the TV to check the weather and he said that you can tell the reporters are getting bored, I mean, how many ways can you say that it's snowing, it's windy, stay off the roads????????

There's no doubt that this is a significant storm. Nevertheless, it is not the end of the world. There will be stupid people who will do foolish things but for the vast majority, they will hunker down and stay home. The 24/7 cable news channels will make the storm sound like the end of the world. Living in upstate NY, I know what blizzards can do. You just gave to stay inside until roads are cleared after the storm ends. Some people will be idiotic but the cable news networks make it sound like snowstorms have never happened before.

I've been tuning out the east coast centric cable media. I live in California where I can see snow on distant mountains but I don't have to be in it unless I want to. We have been getting a lot of rain which we really need. My winter garden is still intact, with lots of beets, turnips, arugula and come spring, sugar snap peas that are about a foot high. Life is good.

How did we ever get along before 24 hour news? I have been in horrible blizzards and they never made national news. My mom watches the cable news and she keeps texting me about how I should act. Don't go out, move away from your trees, make sure you don't drive anywhere. Every text has exclamation points. I told her the news is making it sound so much worse than it is where I live anyway. I love you mom for caring, but stop watching cable.

Where was this said? The storm is far worse than expected in the Philadelphia area.
