It would have gone better if it was worded differently. A thread saying, " I think I need to work on not carrying things over to new threads" or " Maybe we would get along better if we leave what happened in the past alone".

It's well known that "you" statements never go over well. They always come off as a lecture. Of course they have their place occasionally, but not so much on the internet. Especially when the person using "you" statements has no authority over others, IE is not a mod or admin nor are they citing board rules.

Re: Stop Lugging it With You to Every Thread

Hi Moonchilde!  Smiley Happy   I understand your point.   Of course, I think we both know that it will never happen but I sure don't begrudge you trying.

The thing that I have always found amusing is that this is the only board, out of quite a few boards I've frequented over the years and continue to frequent, that is like that.

The only reason I've always come around here is that there are several people I really like so I try to ignore all the childish krap.   I've been here for over 12 years and I know many others have been here for a lot longer than that.   If it weren't for the nice people I'd have been gone a long time ago and I suspect that applies for many others.  Smiley Happy

I do believe all of us should stick to the subject of the thread, if you have an issue with the OP, just take it in stride.  Comment on the subject or don't, it's your choice. MO

Newer posters haven't a clue who or what those posts are in reference to; being one of those newer folks, the comment is not understood.Woman Frustrated

Once you start telling other people what to do, it's a lecture

Thanks for the chuckle.  Aren't there enough people here directing people on how to post here?  Gets old............

And a post saying this *to me* would likely have elicited a clarification commentary, as occurred between me and another poster.

I would not have ever said "I think I need to work on not carrying things over to new threads" because I do not do that with the exception of alerting moderators to trolls.  Have I "ever" done it? Probably - but extremely infrequently if so, hence no need to "work on it."

Am I perfect? Heck no - and never claim to be. It's other posters who ascribe that to me. Some will get it, some won't, and some wilfully won't. That's okay.
