I received a check in the mail today, but they sent me too much. I need the money, but am afraid to deposit it because that would be dishonest and the same as stealing in my book.

I promise to remind myself every day that I am strong, courageous, and resilient.

I think this whole thing is the biggest mess ever.  People getting checks that don't meet the criteria, people getting their money by mail when the IRS has their bank account numbers because they're already on SS.

Never seen so much incompetency.  Roll out wasn't well thought out is what I think.

Hearts were in the right place, great idea and I'd like to see my check LOL   I figure if we don't see ours by the 30th then it's too bad I guess.

My friends have gotten theirs, my sister has hers. People that need them worse then me haven't received a cent. Just from reading in here I don't know what to think except I'm not alone.

Maybe if they done them by state , alphabetically, etc. it would be easier to follow and figure out. It's not logical .  Either way guess , living in Tx. I'd be at the back of the bus.

Back in 2008, they just mailed checks to everyone regardless of income level.  We live in CA and are above the threshold for getting a stimulus payment.  DH is able to work from home, which we're grateful for, but we have 2 additional mouths to feed for the foreseeable future.  Because of our higher cost of living, we probably have less disposable income than many others that qualify for the stimulus.

I heard tonight on the news talk of a 2nd round of checks.

Hope they go back to the drawing board and fine tune it , if indeed, that's what they plan to do.

it's amazing this check is being used for material things and not what it was intended for.  No wonder the government is broke.

@Blingqueen023    The purpose of the checks is to stimulate the economy.  That done by purchasing goods and services.  The Feds want us to buy, buy, buy, not squirrel it away in savings, pay taxes or hide it under the mattress.

Yes, that's exactly the purpose of this money.  It's called a stimulus check because it's supposed to be used to stimulate the economy, and that means buying material things (and, as you said, services.)  Many people will save it or use it in other ways, but it clearly was intended to encourage people to buy.

Re: Stimulus Check

[ Edited ]

No check yet. Expecting a smaller check next month. The gov't will be getting it all back. 100% going toward quarterly taxes owed in July. I will take whatever comes my way. Every little bit toward tax payment helps.

In reading some of the replies on this thread, while it is being referred to as a stimulus check, that is not the actual name. There is no "right way" to use the proceeds. It is no one's business what the $ is used for. I don't understand why some here are telling others what to do with their check!  Please all- live your own life and do not judge or live another's life!
