Sticker Shock at the Post Office

So earlier today I received a very nice Louis Dell'Olio Whisper Knit Sweater. Nothing fancy or heavy, just a plain long sleeve crew neck. Even though I carefully checked the size guide it was way too small. It would have been $6.95  to return using the QVC label. Figured I'd save myself a few bucks and made my own label. Just got home from the post office. Told the guy I wanted to send it the cheapest route. SEVEN DOLLARS & TEN CENTS!! That's it for me ordering clothing items.

I always think postage is really a bargain, and I still do. What woulld it cost to hire someone ,to do the job they do?  How much would it  cost, to pick up the item yourself ?

Of all the gov. programs we pay for, the postal department is the one I think, gives me most value for money

I seldom shop at QVC but never understand when posters say they can return items far cheaper than using the QVC pre-paid label.  When I mail a package, even a small one, by the time I insure it, it's always more than $7.

Don't even talk about UPS.  I cannot get out of there for less than $10.

Re: Sticker Shock at the Post Office

I know what you mean...unless its free shipping and i am almost certain...(not clothing items...never sure on those) it is what i want...I don't purchase...

I recently ordered a coat...from another company...and I was sure it would fit...well it didn't....cost me ten bucks to get it to me and 8 bucks to send it back...eighteen bucks to try it on....that stung...

That order put me over the top as to buying clothing....online...

@shaggygirl  I know, right? I just always use the prepaid label, partly because I have a lazy streak, and partly because I don't want to worry about whether the Q is not charging me anyway. I mailed my daughter's and grandaughter's birthday presents today and it came to $24.45. It wasn't very heavy, either. That's just the cost of doing business.

QVC should waive the return shipping fee since the item measurements didn't agree with the size chart-  I'd be on the phone getting them to waive all costs related to returning the item!

Re: usps -  use a flat rate envelope for the return. Or if under 13 oz, first class mail. I actually do most of my usps transactions on line and anything priority (including the flat rate envelope) is discounted. I rarely deal with my usps office, at first it was becasue their M-F hours changed. And then when I did have to go into the locale, the clerks were snippy &  unhelpful.  I wouldn't be surprised if  $7.10 wasn't cheapest!!

I never use The Q label, because it can take up to 2-3 weeks to get credit for the return and in the meantime, I'm charged a payment on my CC for an item I returned 2-3 weeks ago.

I'll gladly pay 15 cents more to get my credit in 7-10 days at the most.

At least if we hired somebody,  we'd have some assurance that the package would reach its destination.   We don't have that now.   In fact over the holidays the USPS created utter chaos with its lost packages.  I'm still waiting for a necklace I ordered in November.  They have insufficient facilities for the load they take on.   My community has one post office with 3 clerks (on a good day)  for a population of 80,000 people.   There is always a long line.   I shudder and pray everytime I see "Sure-Post" on a shipment.

The rates go up constantly and the service gets worse.   My sister and I quit exchanging Christmas gifts because the postage got riduculous,  usually $30-40. for us.

I wish I paid $7.10. I sent a sweatshirt back to Patagonia from the post office and was told the cheapest was $13.45. Expensive try on

edited to add - it took them at least 2 weeks to credit my account
