My DH noticed tonight that it didn't get dark til around 6:20. Headed in the right direction.

That's what is supposed to happen after the winter solstice, the first day of winter.

I don't know why it's such a surprise.

Too bad some people can't see any joy in the little  things God gives us, for free.

I do agree with you, it is so nice to see it lighter a bit longer!

@Plaid Pants2 We understand about the solstice but thanks for reminder.

Oh, I can take joy in the little things that "G-d" gives us, but I am also know that the days are supposed to get longer after the first day of winter, so it doesn't come as a great shock or surprise to me when it happens.

I thought that everybody knew that the days got longer after the winter solstice.

Every minute of extended light makes me giddy with happiness.  Nothing wrong with noticing and commenting about what makes most people feel good.

My husband mentioned the same thing tonight.  While we all realize the days will be getting longer, it happens so gradually that it’s not that perceptible at first.  It’s one of those things that suddenly dawns on you when you see the difference from a couple of months ago.  It’s always a good feeling.  I’m looking forward to longer, warmer days.

We noticed coming out of mass, last Sat it was still twilight, instead of pitch black. It made us feel  happy

@151949  I enjoy this extra light in the evenings. For some reason, it's when I want to go outside and do a bit of yard work. Always been that way. Loved taking the kiddos out when they were toddlers and we would walk through the yard looking for weeds to pull or a slug to squash. My third child made a big game of that. Yuck.

Although I'm well aware that this happens, it usually sneaks up on me, and it is a nice " surprise ".  đźŚş
